Environmental concerns Have you revisited the facts on these power plants? Its people who look at facts with blinders that make our country even more screwed up than it actually is. They are everywhere and in pretty much every first world country. Now if you guys think because they have the space, and in case of a meltdown these reactors are away from harms way, think again. Japan has about 120,000,000 people and they have, correct me if i'm wrong, a bit more land area than we do. But significantly more people than us. Therefore, in terms of density, they are up by a lot. Which means, in case of a meltdown, there are more of them likely to be affected by radioactive whatevers than us.

A more reasonable answer would be the cost. Can we afford it? There ya go! Now we're making sense.

Here are a list of nuclear reactors in the world.

    Agree...

Besides environmental concerns... they should consider the safety against terrorist attack or sabotage that might be caused disaster... I’m afraid CEBU will be the next CHERNOBYL...

We can’t compare with the Japanese, they more disciplined than us…

a great idea...but many factors to consider....safety and cost of building one is major concern!...basta it will be studied properly and done without any corruption i guess its possible!

Water and Power..? or another source of corruption just like what happened to Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataan_Nuclear_Power_Plant

    ...
    History

Bataan Nuclear Power Plant was ordered in the early 1970s by Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos in response to the 1973 oil crisis. The oil embargo had put a heavy strain on the economy and Marcos saw nuclear power as the best way forward in terms of meeting the country's future power needs and lessening the nation's reliance on imported oil.

A Westinghouse light water reactor, it was designed to produce 621 MW of electricity. Construction began in 1976 and was completed in 1984 at a cost of $600 million. However, due to alleged corruption, the project cost went up to $2.3 billion.

In April 1986, the administration of Corazon Aquino refused to operate the plant, citing its lack of safety. A study was conducted and it showed the plant had more than 4,000 defects. In response, the government sued Westinghouse for overpricing and bribery but was ultimately rejected by an American court. This even as it continued to pay the company for the cost of building the plant.

    Future of the plant

As of 2006, debt repayment on the plant is the country's biggest single obligation. From 1996 to 1998 alone, the government paid a total of $906 million in servicing the loans for the nuclear plant.

Post-Aquino governments have looked at several proposals to convert the plant into an oil, coal, or gas-fired power station, but all have been deemed less economically attractive in the long term than the construction of a new fossil-fuel station.

ur ryt cebutech...mao na sya lng ang kuyaw...big possibilty being anohter source of corruption..... maayo lng sa sugod then it would end up unfinished project...knowing our government? padung lng na sa bulsa ang budget.. not unless cguro if it would be done by a private sector

but the question is naa ba kaha private sector willing mo put up ani..knwing they have lots of factor to consider: like protest from environmentalist.. its very risky on their part to put up one

yeah if u want cebu (God forbid) to be face out sa mapa sa Pilpinas then go ahead, we tried it once (Bataan Nuclear Plant) never again, lamp post lang gani kurakuton pa to 200% from its actual price samot na ning Nuclear Plant. Well France has this energy source, i jst don't think we can have this facility in the heart of the nation.

if u ask me unsaun ni nato pag resolve ang decreasing water, energy source...I DON'T KNOW...cooperation maybe, bt jst dn't make A BOMB in Cebu.....jst my side....
