    halu sir ruel!

naa tuod ko ask, what if jumper 2-3(clearing cmos) is connected while on.. instead of 1-2(normal). what will happen to mobo?

what is the usual configuration ini? 1,2,3 , usually 1-2 is normal & 2-3 clearning cmos, or depende sa mobo?

    tnx sir ruel!

If CMOS Jumper is in clear position while PC is on, mobo manufacturers wouldn't advise us to do that as it might cause damage to the board. But I did do that many times in the past but never had any experience with the mobo getting damaged or somehow affected functionally.

The usual configuration is 1-2 for NORMAL position, although I did encounter some mobos with 2-3 as the normal position.

jumper 2-3, Clear CMOS config? when you put the jumper in this setting and try to boot, you can't. it will send electric pulses to your boards eeprom to clear your CMOS of the settings you changed. the settings will return to their stocks.

but when the pc is running and you pull out your jumper and change it. thats a different story. in my case, when i tried it with my board, i get a crash and i have to properly clear my CMOS.

    that's right.

if your mobo manual says that jumper 2-3 is equivalent to clearing CMOS, you cannot boot your system with that position because the CMOS circuitry is effectively grounded.

but if your system is still able to boot at that clear CMOS position, then that tells you that something is wrong with the CMOS circuitry and that's why you have those kinds of problems after boot up. medyo nayabag na ba.

    Kon dili ma-detect and magkala-kala:
Defective logic board, or corrupted firmware zone.

This is the hardest to repair of all HD troubles.

The kala-kala or knocking sound is produced by the Actuator Arm's constantly hitting the side stops in its effort to read the firmware zone so that the HD can be initialized.

And when the firmware modules are indeed unreadable/corrupted, you need to write a fresh copy of it onto the service area of the platter, or you can attempt to repair the corrupted modules (but only if you can access and view them).
