TWO men robbed and shot an engineer on his way home in Mandaue City at 9:10 p.m. Monday, in front of his terrified children.

Mandaue City Police Director Orlando Ualat said the victim resisted and tried to grab the gun of one of the suspects, after they took his wallet with P10,000 cash inside.

Engr. Antonio Pacol Sanchez, (not the city engineer) was wounded in the nape, chest and head, said Investigation and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) investigator SPO1 Arnulfo Quiachon Jr. The 46-year-old victim was brought to the Vicente Sotto Medical Center but later transferred to the Chong Hua Hospital.

He died at 10:36 p.m. An autopsy was requested.

Police found in the crime scene a pair of slippers believed to be owned by the victim, a .45 shell, a .45 bullet and a .45 magazine with five bullets.

Ualat said the victim and his wife own Kanri-zan’s Enterprise in Conso-lacion town and an accounting firm in Cebu city.

He was robbed along the narrow Mangubat road, 150 meters from the gate of Palm Heights Subdivision in Barangay Tabok, where the victim lived with his family.

Quiachon narrated that the victim was driving his white Hyundai SUV together with his four children. The eldest is only 10 years old.

Quiachon’s wife was in another vehicle ahead of them, with their store personnel and helpers.

Just when the wife’s vehicle turned and disappeared from view, a motorcycle with two men onboard appeared and drove close to the victim’s window.

They ordered him to pull over, and he did.

As Sanchez stepped out of his car, his 10-year-old daughter overheard him say, “Unsa may among nabuhat ninyo, naa ba mi sala (Have we done anything wrong)?”

Seven gunshots sparked a commotion. Witnesses then saw the two men—both wearing red jackets with full-face helmets—leaving on a red Suzuki Raider motorcycle.

No one could recall the motorcycle’s plate number.

Quiachon said the witnesses saw the victim trying to pull the motorcycle’s passenger, but the man struck Sanchez’s head with a gun.

Bystanders attempted to move in to aid the victim but the driver pulled out his own gun and forced them to move back.

After a round of gunfire, the suspects sped away from the subdivision and bystanders rushed the victim to the hospital, where he later died.

Quiachon said they are still looking at other angles.

He said they cannot get additional information from the children as they are still traumatized by what happened to their father.

    Mga Bros,

I'm hearing some very disturbing things about the leadership of the Mandaue Police.

Apparently Lt Col Mersan Premne has been transferred out of the city and re-assigned to Camp Crame. This is all because of the efforts of the IrO of Mandaue lead by nery, carlo and banyo...err...biano!

Premne is the single person most responsible for the low crime rate of Mandaue.

I understand there is a big demoralization among the rank and file of Mandaue's police force because of Premne's transfer.
