two thumbs up!!!
wow..grabeh ka box office!
I wished i had read the book for this one.. kay sa tinuod wla ko ganahi ani na movie...
There was a part in the movie.. when all the electricity went out like the cars and all... but what happened why was the videocamera still working? heheheh~
What I didn't get about these aliens is this: according to the movie (and probably the book, w/c I haven't read yet, sorry), the aliens were planning this for "millions of years". They had highly advanced killing machines such as the tripods, they could somehow "transport" their units into the tripods through lightning bolts (their own version of Star Trek teleportation), yet they couldn't do their homework/research on Earth's flora and fauna?
Spielberg IMO shouldn't have stuck to the "bacteria killing the aliens" plot; it should have been something different, something more plausible than what H.G. Wells originally envisioned... just my 2 cents...![]()

They probably planted it by remote on their planet... probably never occured to them to study the earth biologically, they were probably more interested in scrutinizing more trivial things that we do much like a Peeping Tom does...
maybe million of years ago the earth's environment was not that harmful to them since bacterias and viruses were not that evolved yet...
i think we should start digging at our own backyards..basin naa pa TRIPODS nakalubong.. :lols:
yeah, we did find one here in our neighborhood.... but it's more like a human made "tripod"... a ww2 artillery shell which didn't explode...

This movie was a letdown for me. Independence Day was stupidly a more satisfying alien invasion movie than this one. Don't get me wrong, the action.. the cinematography was top notch but it was the script that made this mediocre.
My thoughts...
*We see a shot of Tom's watch stopped during the lightning scenes telling us that electronic gadgets stopped working at this moment.... but then you see people using their digital cameras and camcorders when the tripods popped out of the ground..
*Whats the deal with Tom taking their kids to his ex-wife? Why go through all that travelling? The obvious thing to do was to hide isn't it.. lay low sort of a thing
*The whole cellar scene at his ex-wife's place was a rip off of SIGNS
*That lil girl screamed a lot
*The teenage son was annoying. His actions just wasn't convincing. I wanted him dead.
*After exploding one of the tripods with grenades.. I really wanted to see TOM pump his fist and start jumping on the couch (like what he did on Oprah). oh well
*They spent so much time on that 2nd cellar where Tim Robbins was. What was special bout that place that the aliens had to send a probe down there? They can wipe out an entire town in seconds why bother with that place...
*Those tripods look like the Striders from Half-Life 2.
*When Tom and screaming kid arrived at his former in-laws, the area seem to be in good shape. They could have at least showed some signs of destruction... eg. roofs falling, cars smashed up etc. Then when the wife and parents got out.. they had full on make up and posh clothes as if they just attended a wedding. Whats with that?
*Then the worst... why did the annoying son had be alive? I wanted him dead. That ending was just too Hollywood for me
Anyway.. enough of my rant. Peace everyone..
Earth-bred bacteria, my dear @russel. Better to read the book of HG Wells or listen to that rock-opera album by Jeff Wayne than watch that movie.
