Yeah nevermind the 17-85mm, take the 17-55mm f2.8.. I myself is kinda regretting when I bought the Nikon 17-35mm f2.8 instead of the 17-55mm f2.8 because of the reach..(well at least I can use my 17-35mm f2.8 with film and quite obvious its sharper than the 17-55mm f2. just like what CrasHBURN said. In the same manner Im in this group of the FF Nikon hopefuls.. so I decided to go by the 17-35mm f2.8 but if not with it.. I'd say I'll go for the 17-55mm f2.8

But if you can afford it... I know you can.. get the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 boss petey78

ok ok... i too got rid of my 17-85is, but my copy was a good one and i would even say it was great i just happened to save enough money for my lust of the RED ring in front of my lens so i got the 24-105is. if  i didnt have the money i would have kept it ... its a good lens sir petey dont worry  at the moment dont listen to these guys (hehehe bisag taas ako respeto ani nila hehehe) kung kulang pa imo budget kay you will end up with no lens and you will loose all the opportunities to shoot kay wala man ka lens hehehehe so ok ra lagi na... tigum lang para maka upgrade ka sa kanang imo gyud gusto.
honestly for me i got the 24-105is because of the fixed f4 and the IS plus a longer range because i shoot more on the long end. i would have gone for the 24-70f2.8 kay halos parehas ra price but with my shaky hands i need the IS and i have observed that even with my tamron 28-75f2.8(sold to finance the 24-105is), seldom do i shoot at 2.8 and found out that i was almost always at f4.
if you ask me if there is a noticeable diffrence between 24-105is and the 17-85is, yes there is... pero kita ra mostly mga photographers maka notice ana hehehe... one of the bigest reason ngano kuha ko ug L is to feed my ego hehehe (with all honesty), because if you know how to tweek your photos in PS, dili na na mailhan pre hehehe... SO DONT WORRY YOU WILL COME TO LIKE YOUR 17-85IS ... for more than a month wala koy lain lens except my kit lens kay nahalin tanan ako lens unya nag-order pako sa 24-105is, were you able to tell in my post in this forum were taken with the kit lens? maybe some trained eyes can but hey most of my non-photographer friends wouldnt notice it ... enjoy your new lens pre and lets just put it this way para di ka ma discourage... the 17-85IS is a great lens but maybe not as great as the 17-55f2.8 or the 24-105IS (i havent even compared mine, and i dont want to kay ma disappoint nya ko kay mahal raba hehehe)

Thanks for the very encouraging works bro edwin. Hibong man gud ko cos I have pro photographer in Canada that uses the 17-85mm lens and he sells his pictures on the net. He says, he uses it like 85% of the time. That's why hibong ko ngano daghan ppl dri dli mu recomend. Oh well, thanks for the encouragement. Dli sah ko anang "L" series oi, not only maka black hole sa wallet, maka black hole sad sa bank account. Also, apas sad ko sa IS ani, very shaky hands (coffee drinker, sometimes ma sobra-an).

@yatakitumbi: with that price, dli ra maka kuyapan, maka coma! hahaha =)

petey: bitaw, i would agree, the 17-85 is a good lens, especially if mag shoot ka ug studio. but, the thing is, my style is different... i want 2.8...

edwin, laum kaayo na iyang budget nothing to worry bout, atik rana ang coma niya hehehe
    joke lang petey

bitaw let me repeat what edwin said "noticeable diffrence between 24-105is and the 17-85is, yes there is... "

dont force yourself to like the 17-85 oi...you'll fall in love with a better lens without effort

let me Quote Master Edwin again "the 17-85IS is a great lens but maybe not as great as the 17-55f2.8 or the 24-105IS"
hmmm, maybe its only great compared to other lesser quality glass...but side by side with those other two...its not "great" anymore?
