being a board topnotch and honor graduate will give one an edge in landing jobs or even offered a high paying job in big companies but it's not a guarantee to succeed in the corporate world. nowadays continuous education and pursuing master's degree, post college and specialized training are needed to progress in one's career. A lot of smart people who are not topnotch but simply are innovative, with foresight, self initiative, perseverance, hard work are successful and leaders in their fields, examples are Mr. Bill Gates of Microsoft now one of the world's richest billionaires, locally in Cebu "king of Philippine mango export" Mr. Justin Uy the founder, CEO of the largest fruit processing export company in the Phils. Profoods International.

While studying chemical engineering at USC he was already helping his parents run their family business starting with coconut processing, activated charcoal, mango processing to various processed fruits (pineapple, jack fruit, durian, rambostan, other tropical fruits), now their company have dozen processing plants or factories in Cebu, Luzon and Mindanao areas with state-of-the-art technologies and internationally certified on quality, food hygiene, good manufacturing standards. Their products have reached supermarkets in US, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, UK, Japan, Australia, Southeast Asia carrying the Philippine Brand. Mr. Uy has been awarded as the Top Businessman of the Phils., TOYM, Outstanding Chemical Engineer of the Phils. for Entrepreneurship, Outstanding Carolinian Alumni for entrepreneurship, etc. Now at his early fifties, he is one of the youngest billionaires of the country with his diversification into real estate and tourism such the JCenter Mall in Mandaue City and Imperial Resort Hotel in Mactan.

As a university and institution of higher learning of high caliber what has USJR, CIT-U and USC done not only to educate the youth and develop professionals from Visayas and Mindanao?

As Carolinian and Fil-Canadian, i can proudly attest that USC has done a lot of research and development published locally and abroad in the areas of water resources management particularly the watersheds of cebu and visayas provinces; ecology of endangered species of visayas and mindanao; sociological, anthropology of native tribes in mindanao; phytochemistry of natural products and herbal medicine in southern Phils. and technology transfer contract research such as wet processing of coconut based products; waste water, toxic and hazardous chemicals management. Recently, USC college of engineering developed pilot scale processing of waste materials from mango & fruit processing industry into new products or materials of value, attracting local and foreign investors for commercialization of the technology, this project is an offshoot of the technology transfer, innovation and patenting offices established in different schools of USJR, CIT-U, UC are participating schools.

How about USJR and CIT-U what are their Research and Development undertaken which Cebu, Visayas and Mindanao regions will benefit and contribute to regional and national socio-economic and development?

In Canada, particularly in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta, the Carolinian-FilCanadians proactively
