okay ra na.. daghan pud ko chicks na studyante hagbong algebra.. basig gusto ka magkig-klasmet nila?
the power of 1. nice pud ni. pero di ta ma-OT ani? pagan origins bya ni of Christian Faith. anyway, u be the judge.. mathematics has its own *religion*.. mathematics is the language of the universe bya.
here are the facts from a mathematical perspective:
a) is the beginning of our numerical system. all the other numbers can be derived from the number 1. our number system is formally defined as a function of the number 1. so 1 is a very important number in all of mathematics, ergo, all of science, and all of the universe where number is used.
b) is in pascals triangle, you can only create the triangle by first using three 1's. like in the image below.
this triangle extends indefinitely, meaning, you can continue writing down numbers until infinity. but you can never create the triangle unless you begin with the three 1s. Also, if you notice, the triangle is padded by 1 in the sides. so everything in the triangle is enclosed in 1.
what's so important about pascal's triangle? it is being used in trade and commerce, plotting the stars, calendars, dates, solving areas and dimensions, etc, etc. pascal's triangle did not originate from Blaise Pascal; its name was attributed to him, because he was the first to write down and exhaustively study its properties, but the triangle itself was observed way back in ancient times, from Egypt all the way to China. But remember, again, you cannot create this triangle without the conditions stated above.
also, this is like the Trinity of 1.
c) is considered the Identity property of multiplication in our number system. this means that when you multiply a number by one, it remains the same. without one, there are many problems in physics, and science in general, that cannot be solved without interpreting them as identity properties.
... so far, those are properties of one I have come across.
karon, when i make the sign of the cross.. I don't do it in the conventional manner anymore. ako na gi-ilisdan like this. "in the name of the father, of the son, and of the holy spirit, 99."
