I think what GMA meant by being the first Pinoy Idol, is being the Pinoy Idol of GMA's very own. That is why they changed the name from Philippine Idol to Pinoy Idol, because they wanted it to be distinct from the former. True that naa nay 1st Idol for the Philippines which is Mau, and I really admire his talent, but GMA cannot claim him as their own artist, as the talent discoverer & developer, because he is not home grown Kapuso. GMA has a lot of plans for the first Pinoy Idol, including talent developments, projects, contracts etc. Mura pud Search for a Star & Star in a Million. They wanted to develop a new superstar from the scratch na sila jud ang naka discover & develop (hopefully di napud kuhaon sa ABS toinks!). That I think, is what GMA meant by 1st Pinoy Idol, no malice at all. Naa ra jud na sa viewers if they put malice to that or not. But FYI mga kapuso/kapamilya, you are right, they should not claim the winner as the very first pinoy idol kay naa najud nauna since 2004 pa, si Eddie Gil, ang kauna unahang at sa kasalukuyang nag iisang Pinoy Idol!!! For me, dili angayan ingnon nga 1st Pinoy idol ang makadaog ron kay:

1. Naa naman nakadaog Filipino with the same franchise taken from American Idol.. the rights, logo, the set-up. everything....

2. What would then be the title of MAu Marcelo then? (1st Pinoy Idol ABC version?) hehheeh

3. Thus it signifies that Mau is less Pilipino than the one nga mahimo unyang 1st Pinoy Idol GMA version?) just a thought...

Granting that mao na reason as what mjavelon stated... i am very sure that whoever wins sa "First Pinoy Idol" im sure they will let it compete to "Asian Idol", see? its just the same show they just change the name to "Pinoy Idol"... they are stripping Mau of her rightful title (kaluoy ni Mau), she will always be the first "Phillipine or Pinoy Idol" bisan asa pa na ibalhin nga istasyon ang "Idol2x"... and to think ABC 21 was the one ang nagpasikat sa "American Idol" diri sa Pilipins... ge "Pirate"(pirmi nga gamiton nga word sa mga Kapuso kung mubalhin ang ila artista sa lain nga network) lang sa GMA.

Jerryp, bro, my friend, fellow istoryan, how r u? thanks for the correction, lain man gud na singer akong na imagine while typing my post, sory for the mis info, nevertheless, i know Mau and she has all the talent to deserve being the Philippine Idol. Now, to give my reply to your 3 points above:

1. As I said, they wanted to be distinct with the former. Gusto man gud nila na it will appear as a new franchise, not reformat cgro but more like under new management. Mura ra gud na mga remake na movies or tv series which gi pun.an nila ug twist just to appear to be fresh & new from the previous version. Its like a fresh start kay Im sure na they are planning to run it for several seasons, so lain pud kung pirmi sila mu refer with Philippine Idol if mu mention silag ika 1st, 2nd, 3rd Pinoy Idol. Libog pa. Besides, mao bitaw gi lahi nila ang name to Pinoy instead of Philippine. Kay lets face it, it didnt clicked that much when it was in ABC, pwede pa cgro kng ni sikat jud maau, ipangutana mga fellow Istoryans beh kng tanan ba nakaila ni Mau, Im sure daghan wa nakaila. But that besides the point, I think the reason was more of having a fresh start.

2. Mau will be known as the Philippine Idol, no 1st no last. plain & simple. Thats the downside of having a weak partner man gud, kay if you transferred to a better one, luoy jud ang mga nauna. Thats just the way things work.

3. It only signifies that the next Pinoy Idol, will be GMA's very own.Thats all. Nothin more nothin less. As I said, its all upto the viewers if they put malice on it. Much more signifying Mau as less Pilipino as she is. Besides, it wont matter kng Philippine Idol or Pinoy Idol xa, its her talent that counts. Mao na ang makapasikat nya, not the show. Daghan na kaau talent search na ni sikat ug di nag sikat ang mga nakadaug, bottomline is, its their talent that will take them to the top.
