Firm that built China's fake islands gets Davao City deal

A Chinese state-owned company said to have been involved in Beijing's island-building in the South China Sea signed a deal to construct islands for rival claimant the Philippines as its President Rodrigo Duterte visited last week, reports said.

CCCC Dredging will create four artificial islands totaling 208 hectares of reclaimed land in Davao, the port city on the southern island of Mindanao where Duterte was mayor, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

In a case brought by his predecessor Benigno Aquino, the Philippines won a resounding victory at an international tribunal earlier this year over Beijing's extensive claims, infuriating the Asian giant.

China has built up artificial islands, some with airstrips, capable of hosting military facilities. Dredging vessels owned by CCCC Dredging subsidiary CCCC Tianjin Dredging were spotted working in the Spratly archipelago disputed by Manila, according to an analysis of satellite imagery from IHS Jane’s Intelligence Review.

In the Davao project, a perimeter of sand bags will be dropped into the sea, and sand pumped into the space, displacing water until an island is formed, the Monday report explained.

Japan firms urge Philippines to ease limits on foreign stakes

TOKYO – Japanese business groups urged the Philippines yesterday to speed up the lifting of constitutional restrictions in doing business in the country, describing it as a major obstacle in increasing foreign direct investments (FDI).

Teruo Asada, co-chairman of the Japan-Philippines Economic Cooperation Committee, stipulated these terms during the Philippine Economic Forum held at the Prince Park Tower here as part of the activities during President Duterte’s three-day official visit.

With Japan’s continuing infrastructure development support to the Philippines, Asada said the business leaders are pushing for amendments to the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

We expect the Philippines to relax constitutional restriction on foreign investments,” he said at the opening of the Philippine Economic Forum.

Na amaze na ko naunsa na ni dri. Naay nabanhaw after so many arguments na iyang gi ignore kay dili ka tubag.

Also, about the projects or deals, the CCCC company is the third largest in the world. The largest in China. It also assimilated one of Australia's biggest construction firms with the approval of their government (2015). Also, attending and sponsoring International Dredging conventions.

A little Google will help to know more about those companies. They could be shady on their projects years ago. But recent news show they are good at what they do. All that is left is for our government to make sure those deals will benefit us both.

And, the Antis never said anything when it came to the MRT trains being purchased at high prices yet is not even fully implemented until now and Pnoy has not laid on the tracks to be run over.

"I dont see it as my duty as the Prime Minister, an elected Prime Minister of Singapore and not a client state of the United States. Im not in receipt of your aid nor I am here to seek aid. I am doing all right. I hope to do more trade with you. And I dont think it is the duty of the elected representative, leader, of Singapore to go in and involve his country in a situation which can end disastrously for his whole people." - Lee Kuan Yew
