Do not give me the statement "the authorities just ignore them without even acting on the problem" coz you never was there in the first place. Argue that what you see is the obvious, and I can answer you with---the obvious is what's happening right now in our society. Do you really know the statistics? Did the crime rate decreased in Cebu City in the last couple of years?

Well you might say Yes it has, tell me it's a dramatic decrease and I'll approve on your Vigilante.

thats why we need to cut them down to decrease if not eliminate crime in cebu. if you want prove that its not decreasing then what would happen if there are no vigilantes to stop these criminals...will you expect it to decrease?

End crime all together in Cebu? Don't be naive. But it could be do-able.. First thing we need is a COMPETENT government. Why? Cuz I dont see one right now! Specially the cops, their head is so far up their ass that they couldnt see a crime if it slaps them in the ass.

The solutions are old, tried, and tested. Neighborhood watches where citizens actively provide the police with information, bigger police budgets, political will, and most especially clean politicians who are not criminals themselves! In the end, YOU have to do something such as vote out corrupt officials. If you don't participate and just rely on quickie "solutions" such as vigilantes, then the cycle of crime will simply continue. If you throw out justice so that you can have a quick and easy solution, you are creating an even bigger problem.

The so-called "firm hand" you espouse is the hand of politically-protected crime. That is NOT a solution. It's a problem in itself.

Vigilanteism is a GREAT EVIL and does NO GOOD. It is a form of crime, and the vigilantes are criminals. Those who support them are supporting crime.

I believe a simpler analogy can present the discussion at hand in a better perspective. Assume a festering wound on a person's big toe, say a diabetic gangrene. If one does not make a decisive and effective medical procedure or surgical procedure at the earliest possible time, one may have to cut off the big toe. However, if the patient believes that there is still hope through the use of massive anti-biotics and other drugs, (or in this analogy, herbals, prayers or even witchcraft) he may realize one day that he has septicemia. And he will eventually die. (Maybe at this stage, relatives will use simplistic cause of death as gi-buyagan, or even, gi-barang!)

However, on the other hand, a drastic measure can be effective. And that is by amputation. Amputate the big toe. If the patient is unwilling and dilly dallies, doctors' recommendation might be amputation at the knee. Wait further and hope against hope and also for miracles to happen, it may lead to cutting off the leg at the thigh. Defiance against common sense will just lead to another statistic due to stupidity.

I do not need to further delve into the implications of my above mentioned analogy. We are talking about how to save the patient... in this case, our crime-laden society where the police and law is unutile. And the populace left to fend for themselves. There is no more police protection and disfunctional.

We are part of the society. We are the society. Let us not perorate aimlessly about inanate deliberations which, at times, dwell in the realm of immaturity and detachment from reality. Let us come down to reality and tackle the bull by its horns! Let us not allow our citizenry cower in fear! Let them be free to move around not fearing that they may find themselves victims of another heist. Or worse, a fallen newspaper covered crime victim.

And of course, I do not wish the above scenario will happen to you.

Yes, in such a situation, amputating the big toe would be effective. But the analogy is false. Vigilanteism is more like amputating both legs with a dirty bucher's cleaver when all is needed is to surgically remove the big toe! The "cure" is far worse than the "disease".

The crime istuation in Cebu is NOT anywhere as bad as in many other places. The Cebu police and its justice system have NOT totally broken down yet, especially when compared to other cities. Colon at night is far safer that Tondo. I have lived in both Cebu and Manila, and I know which city is safer. I have walked the streets of Parian, Pier Uno, Taboan, and Carbon, and I was NEVER in danger. But I will not dare try the same in Tondo. Many other cities, including New York, have higher crime rates than Cebu despite their bigger police budgets. Yet these cities do not need vigilantes gunning down suspects in the streets and injuring innocent bystanders! (take note that several innocent bystanders including at leats two women have been shot by the vigilantes)

The bottom line is that anyone who thinks that you can stop crime with more crime is just not thinking. Vigilanteism is NOT a little evil that brings about a greater good. It is a GRAVE EVIL that brings about GRAVE HARM to it s victims, to democracy, and to the rule of law. Its benefits, if any, are small and cannot justify the terrible injustice it causes.

An analogy is a simplistic form of example in order to deliver a point. If one must dichotomize a given fact and justify, let you be and rot.

It appears that lisod pukawon ang nag-mata. Adamant in your naivete, do remain a child and stick your head in the sand, oblivious of events around you. And hope that the next victim of heinous crime is not you or a member of your family. (as in the past, as you alleged.)

Remember the author Ernest Hemingway? In his book, For Whom The Bell Tolls, circa 1940, try to read it (and of course understand and internalize it)... For whom the bell tolls if not for you. Grow up, old man!

Have a nice day in your colored glass.

the crime situation is not as bad as other places,do you want it to be worse than other places if we'll just let them(criminals) do their thing. the police cant handle everything themselves...the ratio is i think 1 policeman to 100 population.do you think they will be able to handle given that ratio?

its never safe to walk in colon...try to expose your valuables...you would be so lucky enough if nothing happens to you..

so what, Vigilantism would be the only solution to that?

    don't be naive..
