If you'll notice Bose are really good with the mid freq's that's why they sound nice. But there other brands that have better high & low frequencies...... Better lows mean it can almost blow a woman's clothes off. Better highs mean you can clearly hear a pin drop & not just a quick static niosy "ting!" sound. Not that Bose isn't any good. It has a very clean sound but not that wide a range...

If it were a singer, mura siyag lighthouse family. bugnaw kaayo ug tingog but you don't hear tunde screaming or singing high notes....

I think what those bose satellites lack is the lower mids. with only about 2-1/2" speakers or smaller, it just cant reproduce the lower frequencies properly if at all. what it can handle are the much upper mids and lower highs only because it has no proper tweeter. I auditioned its big bro before, the Acoustimass system and it was painful to the my ears especially when the volume was turned up a bit. Some speaker manufacturers are also guilty of this as they built similar systems also.

For sure those bose systems are ok if it weren't for their being overpriced. The Klipsch Promedia 2.1 that i auditioned before was way way way better than the bose acoustimass and it cost about p9000 then against the p15000 for the companion model only? the Klipsch too has got a real subwoofer instead of that 4th order bandpass design of bose that they call a "bass module". why don't they call it a subwoofer instead? because its not a subwoofer. It can't go down to real subwoofer levels. It has to do double duty trying to provide the frequencies those tiny satellites can't produce and the lower frequencies as well. The Promedia also has 3/4" horn tweeters to handle the highs properly. But they may not be available so in its place I would much rather get the superb Z-680 or even better the 5500 with its 10" sub than the Acoustimass or its smaller sibling the companion

Bose has a policy of having its dealers build a booth just for its speakers and i think they don't allow customers to do an AB test to compare it with other brands( Even Soundroom at SM has one). Why do you think they do this? Para di ma claro ang ilang pagka bati for the high price that they are asking for their products.

Hehehe not that Lighthouse Family is bad I'm even a fan But ma compare lang ba kay pang easy-listening lang ba good for lounges or ambient chillout types. That's what I can think of when i see Bose. I can't think of the Jewel case speakers jud for serious home theater sounds...

@ kjd, naluoy lang ko sa Lighthouse fam. when i listened to that Acoustimass system especially with higher volume, mo
ha-it ug samot ang sound. made me wanna turn it off. But a good setup, even a mid budget system, will still sound good and clean at louder levels. Some sound even better as more "juice" is poured into it. Gives the impression that the singer is right there in the room in front of you. I was really amazed at how a good setup could sound.
This might be OT, but a salesman over at Soundroom recounted about a seaman customer who was dead set on buying the Lifestye 48 system. Says he's got the funds to buy it right away (he probly had wet dreams about this speaker system while at sea, and probly swore to buy it as soon he could afford it ). So he auditioned it. After auditioning the bose in its own enclosure, salesman invited him to audition another system in another room. A B&W setup. After the auditon, he lost his desire to buy the bose and was quite disillusioned and disappointed by how inferior it sounded against another speaker brand. To top it all, the better sounding system costs less than that p200,000+ crap.

I already tried listening to it to one of their showrooms here in my place. You know what, it doest even produce a nice sound. For me personally as an opinion its expensive and yet wont meet your preferences. Its just bose by its name but camparing to quality of sound na iya i produce i dont think its that nice bucause I already heard how it sounds.
