Flight attendant files formal complaint
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Airlines (PAL) ground attendant who cried foul over the disparaging remarks made against her by Alliance of Volunteer Educators (AVE) party-list Rep. Eulogio Magsaysay yesterday filed a complaint against the lawmaker before the Office of the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives.
In a six page complaint, PAL customer service agent Sarah Bonnin Ocampo accused Magsaysay of “serious misconduct, grave abuse of authority, solicitation of favor for personal gain using his public office, conduct unbecoming of a high-ranking public official, and other violations of the Code of Conduct for Public officials.”
She was accompanied by her lawyer Bernadette Carrasco in filing the complaint which would be referred to the House committee on ethics chaired by Bohol Rep. Erico Aumentado.
Earlier yesterday, the PAL Employees Association (PALEA), of which Ocampo is a member, filed a separate criminal complaint against Magsaysay before the Office of the Ombudsman.
Last week, Ocampo and members of PALEA held a rally at the lawmaker’s residence in Greenhills, San Juan.
Ocampo also urged the ethics panel to subpoena documents and security officers of the Manila International Airport Authority at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Centennial Terminal 2 and compel them to provide the committee a certified copy of the CCTV recording of the incident. Magsaysay and Ocampo quarreled last Dec. 17 at one of the boarding gates of the NAIA-2 over the lawmaker’s request to have his 10-year-old son seated beside him on the flight to the United States because the child was ill.
Ocampo said Magsaysay called her a “menopausal bitch” and threatened that she would lose her job. The lawmaker earlier said the allegations against him were exaggerated, but said he was willing to apologize to her personally.
He also claimed to have never introduced himself as a congressman. Magsaysay said Ocampo has a right to file a complaint.
“What I’ve said was inexcusable. I’m willing to apologize over and over again if needed,” he said in a telephone interview.
