OT: .... like what Gokongwei (Robinsons/Cebu Pacific), Lucio Tan (Allied Bank/PAL) and Gotianun (Filinvest) had done for Cebu in terms of investment or putting their money back to the place where they were mold as enterpreneur, I hope Tony Tan Caktiong will do likewise for Davao.... has there any investment/s poured in Davao by Mr. Caktiong?....I think he is now a billionaire and he should invest in Davao as a gesture of gratitude to Davao City.... I noticed that Jollibee in Davao has not so many branches, considering the fact that it is a very big city. Compared to a very small city like Cebu which has over 20 stores and 5 more this year, not including the branches in neighboring cities like Mandaue, Lapu-lapu and Talisay (27 branches in Metro Cebu alone) in which if you sum up the total land area of these 4 cities, I think it is still smaller than the land area of Davao City..... plus the fact, that majority of the Jollibee stores in Cebu are company owned, not franchise.

There are only 13 jollibee stores here in Davao (including Davao's other cities such as Digos and Tagum). However, most of the Jollibees here operate within two to three storeys building.

about franchises? only SM and NCCC are franchises, the rest are under JFC group of companies. for about 1.5 million davaoeños ok na siguro ang 10++ jollibees placed strategically sa syudad kay daghan man pod ila kalaban nga mga local fast food chain alike... mo compete man pod ang nagkatag nga chickies and patties, minute burger, burger machine, burger burger and of course mac donalds, so sa akong tanaw the fastfood chains in davao are just enough, dili kulang dili pod sobra. and cebu having more jollibees than davao in spite of the fact nga mas dako ang davao? land areas don't go to jollibee to eat, it's the populace. 27 jollibees for the 2.5 million cebuanos (in 4 cities) and 13 jollibees for the 1.5 million davaoeños (1 city) is a fair share i guess.

about investing in davao as a gesture of attitude, mr. kaktiong is a businessman and a chinese at that especializing in fast food chain, dili man pod niya pwede pun on ug jollibee ang davao, just like gokongwei can not put 10 robinsons in cebu kay naa man tay gitawag nga market saturation. but i'm sure kaktiong is helping davao in anyway he can through davao chamber of commerce.

    Davao region: Biodiesel’s biggest market

Davao City (24 August) -- The Davao region is seen as the biggest absorber and user of biofuels, the region is thus believed to be having the highest acceptance rate of the public all over the Philippines for biofuels.

This was bared by Carlos Palad, Public Affairs Officer of Chemrez Incorporated which is the biggest supplier of coconut Methylester Biodiesel in the country having the biggest biodiesel plant all over Asia.

Davao region is getting 25 percent of Chemrez’ total volume for its local distribution. “This is a big news for Davao because it would also reflect public acceptance and the rate of demand based on the volume absorbed by the region," Palad said.

Chemrez is but one of the number of advocates or members of the Clean Cities Davao Coalition (CCDC) that brings together all stakeholders driven by the objective of cleaner air for a cleaner environment.

The said coalition was able to pass resolutions on the use of 1% CME or Coco-Biodiesel in all diesel fueled vehicles of the city government, conducted a comprehensive pilot test on the use of Coco-Biodiesel, and several information, education campaigns to promote biofuels.

“ We have been promoting biodiesel in Davao as well as all over Mindanao because we believe that few years from now we would run out of fossil fuels. That pushes us to look for alternative fuels that includes the coco-biodiesel as the most viable alternative for fossil fuel,” said Engr Sam Abrenilla, President of Mindanao Inventors Federation.

Biodiesel is a natural hydrocarbon with negligible sulphur content that will substantially reduce emissions from diesel-fed engines. It significantly reduces air pollutants like black smoke and air toxics that cause cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, and stroke.

“ We are only recommending the public to use 1% CME in diesel fueled vehicles. Although a full percent use is most advisable but the economy dictates that a minimal mix is viable,” Abrenilla said.

However, Flying V Chief Executive Officer Paul Tan claimed that with the significant increase of biodiesel users in the country, biodiesel price would then become more reachable and affordable to the consumers.
