if he really is generous, then why is it that he has plentiful of money? and If he is really generous then he shouldn't be as rich as that. It's logical to say that in this election, choose the lesser evil, for the choices we make, makes our country better. No offence thread starter but he has more evil deeds than you can have ever imagined.

NPC choosing between Teodoro and Villar

    Source: The Daily Tribune
    Posted: 11/3/2009

Bereft of a presidential candidate for the 2010 race, after Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero bolted his party of 11 years, the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) is now reportedly in the process of choosing who among the various presidential aspirants in the field would be a viable party bet to lead the party founded by business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco.

Despite the abundance of those who have signified their intentions to seek the presidency next year, however, Albay Rep. Reno Lim yesterday claimed that the NPC has narrowed down its choices to administration party Lakas-Kampi-CMD’s presumptive bet, Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro and Nacionalista Party president, Sen. Manuel Villar.

In an interview, Lim stressed that only Teodoro and Villar are in the shortlist of presidential bets who could earn the backing of the NPC which is the second biggest political party in the country.

Earlier reports said the NPC members are divided in their support for a presidential candidate and the team-up of the party’s vice presidential bet, Sen. Loren Legarda.

The NPC has started to conduct nationwide membership consultations on the presidential race shortly after erstwhile NPC preferred presidential candidate, Senator Escudero bolted the party reportedly due to differences in party programs espoused by the leaders of the party.

Escudero’s decision came after his reported tiff with Legarda over the NPC presidential nomination which however, had been already resolved prior to the senator’s bolting of the NPC.

Lim said a national consensus is being sought by party leaders but the manner of determining the decision remained vague to party members.

“There are many options -- convention, via telephone or text messaging or letters. Many believe that whatever the decision will be, it has to be reached by Nov. 15,” the Bicolano solon said.

Lim said Teodoro appeared to have a strong backing in the NPC hierarchy but his being a member of the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD could trigger controversies in the local level where NPC and Lakas members will contest the same elective posts next year.

Teodoro’s Cabinet colleagues, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus and Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, both shoo-ins for NPC senatorial slate along with Agusan Rep. Rodolfo “Ompong” Plaza, are said to be among the backers of the defense chief, who was a former NPC secretary general and a nephew of Cojuangco.

Lapus, however, has already publicly announced that he will not be seeking an elective seat, preferring instead to finish his term as education secretary, a term which is co-terminus with the term of President Arroyo, who is slated to step down by June 30, 2010.

“I can believe the news about Lapus et al. There are NPC old guards who favor Gibo,” said another NPC stalwart, Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao, said.

“He is an excellent choice to replace Chiz, if you ask me,” said Aggabao.

Requesting anonymity, another NPC solon agreed that “Teodoro, easily the most qualified among presidential candidates” deserves the NPC party backing.

Legarda is believed to join whichever political camp and be the running mate of whoever presidential candidate the NPC, upon reaching a consensus, will be supporting.

The congressman aired the optimism that issues concerning local election rivalry between NPC and Lakas-Kampi-CMD can be addressed “fairly as long as both sides are willing to sacrifice for the common purpose of supporting Gibo.”

But party spokesman and Valenzuela Rep. Rex Gatchalian denied reports that party members are pushing an NPC-Lakas-Kampi coalition for 2010.

“The NPC is still in the process of consulting its membership base in order for us to come up with a party consensus as to how our party should proceed with the presidential derby,h said Gatchalian.

Meanwhile, United Opposition (UNO) Spokesman, Ambassador Ernesto Maceda refuted news reports that Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim had endorsed Gilbert Teodoro instead of President Joseph Estrada as his presidential candidate for the 2010 elections.

“Contrary to news reports, Mayor Dan Lim remains a good friend and ally of President Estrada,” former Senate President Maceda said. “Mayor Dan Lim himself had denied this report as he merely did the proper courtesy and usual introduction to all visiting presidential candidates, as well as other government officials.”

Maceda added that Mayor Lim confirmed to him in a phone conversation his continued alliance with President Estrada, being his long-time friend.

“And of what I’ve recalled, Mayor Lim had attended the gathering of officers and members of Agilang Pilipino last Oct. 20, 2009, endorsing the presidential bid of President Estrada,”Maceda noted.

In other developments, Maceda said that several mayors in Davao del Sur who previously belonged to the NPC, headed by Abad Santos Mayor Alexander Wangkay, had just taken their oath as members of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

“Besides the mayors in Davao del Sur, nine mayors from the province of Nueva Ecija, headed by San Leonardo Mayor Froilan Tagano and congressional district candidate Jun Esquivel had also joined the Erap group,” he said.

Maceda added that most likely Vice Gov. Roy Padilla will be the party’s candidate for the province of Camarines Norte, along with Pagsanjan Mayor George “ER Ejercito” Estregan for Laguna governor, Abad Santos Mayor Alexander Wangkay for Davao del Sur governor, Efren “Rambo” Rafanan for Ilocos Sur governor, Rhodora Cadiao for Antique governor, and Mabeth Movo Garcia for Aklan governor.
