Default child abuse, rape and incest

must be because the society has regarded the seniors as the respected ones and any minor engaging in sexual activities or having intimate relationships with someone way older than them is considered as a form of disrespect or/and insolence...

    i'm not against it, though.

i don't think there's something wrong with it as long as both parties are in legal age. but if one of them is a minor then that's another story even if the minor gives his/her consent.

it is true that some of these culprits are also victims themselves. it would have been nice if the victims could get extensive therapy so that they won't end up to be one of the abusers because chances are some will be.

    1. Angay bang ibawal ang incest bisan WITH MUTUAL CONSENT? Ngano man?
    2. kon para nimo, dili angay ibawal, uyon ba ka makighilawas sa sakop sa imong pamilya basta duna mo'y consent sa usag-usa?

all these things are caused by uneducation, drugs & poverty.

uneducation because they unbelievably and actually think it's okay.

    drugs, need i say more?

poverty because they have little houses with the living room as the bedroom for the entire family. coupled with influences of smut & ponrography, the probability of male family members or relatives giving in to the tempation is higher because their children or teenage daughters, neices or grandchildren so exposed and always see them while sleeping, taking a bath or after taking a bath or while changing their clothes.

now what caused or contributed all these 3 factors you ask? CORRUPTION.

ok here we go. as with incest, i have placed my views about it here. but it somehow did not tackle on the issue of rape and child (sexual)abuse.

the horror of rape and child abuse is not even something that should be questioned. the damage is too plain to see. unfortunately the problem is very complex. we should not limit ourselves at seeing this only as a result of a few factors.

you guys have already given out a number of probable factors that create the very conditions necessary for rape and child abuse to happen. regarding the anti-smut campaign, Conrado de Quiros has something thought-provoking to say about the matter (and pending resolutions in the House of Reps and the Senate). but we have also forgotten one simple and obvious fact; how the patriarchal Filipino society sees women (and children) as weak and powerless, and how it maintains and propagates the idea that they are.

culture is never inherent; it is learned. the egalitarian society that was the pre-Spanish Philippine islands saw a division of labor according to sexes, thought it was never strict and became interchanged in other societies. the introduction of the male-dominant ways of the colonizing Spaniards, reinforced by an equally gender prejudiced religion disrupted it all.

we can say that this are vestiges, colonnial nightmares if you may. the only way to break this spell is to empower the women and their children to speak out and have their say. to take them from the shadows of their husbands. to have some sense of self-respect to gain respect. to create the very conditions wherein women and children are respected and not abused, and such abuse are not permitted but heavily sanctioned.

this cannot happen however if we still regard domestic violence as 'away sa magti-ayon, dili ta manggilabot' or 'pagdiliplina man ang pagpamunal' in doing so we actually permit these things to happen which leads to worse-case scenarios of rape and sexual abuse in children. what is sad is that sometimes rape victims are the ones blamed for what happened to them. it is as if the way they dress or the way they act is enough reason for them to be raped. this is a fact that shows how low women are seen here, especially poor women.

unfortunately, empowering women (which also leads to empowering their children) cannot be realized if they continue to ravage in poverty. it is hard to gain some sense of self respect if one is economically tied to her husband. more so if the family is suffering from poverty (a report by the PCIJ tackles on women and poverty) a sociological study on women's welfare and incidence of domestic violence showed that it dramatically decreased when women were not confined soley to their homes.

when both spouses see each other as equals, abuse decreases dramatically. more so if poverty is eliminated. moreover, the feudalistic culture that we inherited conciously allows such abuses to take place (inside and outside the family) without punishment.
