    THE FIRST, THE POLITICAL CARNIVAL
The First is clearly the most obvious, because it is also the Loudest. In the past, the Political Scene has been regarded as a Circus. I say not anymore-! It is an astounding Carnivale! Politicians are like Barkers calling out the attentions of the crowds: Come one, come all! I’ve got something to say!

As our Politicians go about their causes, issues and agendas, We the People come along for the ride—How many local Political Episodes seem to be a Merry-go-round, a Roller Coaster, a Shooting Gallery, Bumper Cars, or a Special Creature feature exposed as the Strongest Man or the Real Mermaid?!

We all have an Idea of how duplicitous our Politicians are, they’re carni-folk. What can one expect? All of these Political Intrigues are just Games, often rigged, set up against Odds, and the real losers are the People. But we’re such good sports eh? All in the spirit of Popular Entertainment.

But Politicians being bad, be they ever be so corrupt, callous, and crooked—they are also people. They are also Pilipinos. They come from the same pool, the same Source. They are basically Us. The only difference is, They got Us to place them on that Ivory Pedestal of Power and Influence. But what are They but simply broken shards, mirror pieces of a People Preyed Upon and Plundered?

A PEOPLE, PREYED UPON AND PLUNDERED
If the Semites are a people persecuted and pursued, the Negroes are a people plucked out, pushed to picking cotton and get picked on, the Filipinos are a people that History has shown to be One that is Preyed upon and Plundered.

First, we preyed on each other- as warrior tribes we fought and plundered each other’s claims. It was not only Water that divided our lands, it was Our Natures that divided Ourselves. Had we been United under a Banner(much like the Moros of Mindanaw) we would not have been colonized and castrated of our Culture and Spirit by the Spanish conquistadores.

Under those near 400 years that our bodies were kept out in the Sun laboring, and our minds in the Dark sleeping, we have become Ruined. Even though we fought ferociously for freedom, it was both a fiasco and a façade. The Americans bought Us(and even until today, keep on buying Us). The Japanese took and tortured us. Then in the last turn of the Century before the Millenium, a Dictator preyed upon, plundered the very People he presided. Though dead, we still remain among the Shadows of his Regime. The bitter fact of the matter is, he was one of Us.

Fatefully it has come to this, a corrupt, cannibalistic cycle that has come to full circle. From the start, it was Us who preyed on each other.. and now Today, it is still Us.

What has lead Us to this present predicament? What of our own collective past that make Us today lash out at each other in Bitter Blame through more Bitter thoughts and even in the most Bitter of Actions? What venom flows through our blood and bodies, making Our Minds cowardly, Our Bodies lazy, and Our Spirits Fragmented, Unwhole, as Individuals and as a Nation?

This is, I believe the Greatest Reason of all why our country is poor. It is the Reason that can be the Mother of the 1st two Reasons stated. It is not ability or resources that our nation lacks… We are poor because we have a

    THE LAST, POVERTY OF VALUES
In my humble opinion, We are all Poor.. not just in the manner of possessions and opportunities but poor in Values, the right kind of Values. Though We may have been taught the Rightness of How Things should Be, acquired an Instinct for it, but how many of Us do proactively pursue and properly implement the Rightness for Our Selves, for Others? Only a few, I know. Out of Millions— only a Few.

We Know but We Do Not Do.

And I’m only stating of Those who are tutored, by Family, School, Church and Self. How of Those who did not have the opportunity of learning Knowledge, being taught to think Right, and act accordingly to the Rightness of how Things should be? These are the Majority, the Mass that Hold their Own and Hold Back. These are the Great Bulk who are this Country’s Burden.

We possess a Poverty of Values. Whatever little Morals we have, rather than Use and Share it for Rightness, we hide it much like the Last Servant of the Parable (ref. Matthew 25.14-30, Luke 19.11-27) and We Are Punished for It, much the Same Way.

As I read through the previous posts, I’ve noticed that We criticize and We condemn the Wrongness of Others but I humbly wonder how many of Us do courageously challenge Our own selves (and engage Others) to cultivate the sense of Rightness of How Things should Be into Actual Action?

True, the Archipelago, and its surrounding territories are virile with natural resources but its true worth does not lie there. A Country is Only as Poor as its People make it. We, the People, are only Poor as We Think We Are.

To the dear Reader, Please Think on That Thought, and Think some more. Whatever conclusion you may come to reach, I can only Pray it to be Positive and Proactive. If so, please Act on it.

We, the Great Bulk who are this Country’s Burden, are also its only Blessing.

Don't forget to add the U.S on that list. What's up with these articles! There was that korean essay about the Philippines, now this. If it wasn't for Spain(religion) and the US of A(education) than the Philippines would have been like Africa. Don't talk about Philippines doing well if Spain and US didn't invade cuz i've seen old pics of of the country(totally backward) or isslands.

If we study History it has shown Events both Good and Bad have occurred. But what's past is past. Let's charge everything to knowledge and look presently to the Problems of Today. Truly we cannot rely on anyone else but Ourselves. Our Future lies within our own hands.

the roman catholic hierarchy only exert their moral authority when it is to its interest. they never put the welfare of the people in the forefront always. also the inaction of the church on the current situation of the country and even inside it's hierarchy leaves you dumbfounded.

    by who posted that.

    1. the government
    2. the church
    3. the masses.

    I totally agree, why? here:

    1. the government system is totally corrupt. And in terms of who can take office should be revised, i mean college dropouts, tv host, basketball players! WTF!?.

    2. the church keeps on feeding the masses about religous stuff, thats ok i have no quarrel with faith (im catholic to start with), but telling people that its ok and lets pray to God while in fact that its not ok and our country is literally going to hell like this.

    3. the masses, Jesus Christ!! they are so cheap and spineless that even an idiot politician can literally buy thier vote for 100 pesos flat, cant they just think that it will be better for the entire country in the long run to vote the most capable of the cadidates and not the most advertised.

then again its just my opinion.

thank you for the explanation. but i think it's a very weak reason why the country is poor. we always blame someone for our present predicament. interesting but will not hold water (is this correct?).

    1. The people. Everyone is guilty to having done a "bahala na". Too many people out there however LIVE by this code instead of correcting themselves for the wrong doing that "bahala na" really is. Too many lack the desire to improve oneself, improve one's work, improve their way of life. Maybe it's an early acceptance of defeat or maybe that's just what the Filipino has become.

    2. The government? The government IS the people.

    3. 1 and 2 sums it up.
this is the line --------- cross it. i dare you
