So the Asean Summit will be postponed to January, how sure are they that no storm will hit Cebu during those days? We all know that low pressures, tropical storms and heavy rains frequents Cebu during this month.

I even heard na mura kuno ug market ang Shangrila Mactan yesterday kay gipamaligya sa ilang employees ang mga goods na supposed to be for the guests during the summit by 50% of the original prices. Although basin nabayran na ang mga bookings ug reservations daan sa mga hotels but the items na gi prepare for the orders of the guests during sa ilang stay ngadto mao kuno naka alkanse sa mga hotels.

Expect higher hotel and restaurant rates during the January summit para makabawi sila sa alkanse.

What these luzers have are the talent to perpetually look for scapegoats. Yes you are totally right. Had the storm hit Cebu in a bullseye, they would say another script just to inflame people's emotions. They never understood that storms are hard to predict. Yes you have the weather bureau but nature is unpredictable even on the next hour. I can just imagine if we have the delegates, Cebu has been hit by the storm point blank. All the utilities are down like water, and massive electricity knock down. You can imagine the chaos, embarassment and humiliation we had had to endure in the face of the international body. By and large the president may have erred on the right side which is the lesser damage and that is the postponement of the ASEAN.
    These people never understands.

They say there are only two kinds of people on earth... those who don't understand and wants to understand and there are those who understand but "refuses" to understand.

Before anyone answers YES or NO, consider the following that happened:

    - Several provinces have been ravaged by the storm; Boracay was not even spared
    - There were some who died and got injured

As of now, all of the government's attention are on the victims of the storm including the ones in Albay which was previously ravaged by Reming.

Had the government pursued with the Summit, would PGMA herself put her focus on it (ASEAN) or at the victims of the storm?

Now that the government is being criticized by some because of the summit's postponement, would the government also be criticized by the same people if the so-called "lavish" summit was pursued in the midst of death and destruction?

    Think again.

.. yes, if the Summit went according as planned then comments such as AH, GRABIHA AH, KADAGHAN BIKTIMA SA BAGYO THEN MAG SUMMIT PA GYUD, UNAHA SA NA MGA BIKTIMA SA BAGYO OI ... But still, the postponement is proof of our weak government, there should be a separate bureau for calamities. oh well, what's done is done. Time to shut up with all these analysis on the reason of the postponement and look ahead for january..

More than half of ASEAN-related meetings in Cebu have been completed

Cebu City (11 December) -- Despite the Asean Summit's postponement, more than half of the expected related meetings in Cebu have been completed last Saturday among the ministerial levels.

Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., secretary general of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) to the 12th Asean Summit, bared of the 92 listed meetings, 53 of these have been finished while only 39 meetings are left.

Paynor said the meetings of the senior officials and the economic ministers as well as the Eminent Persons Group have all been conducted. He however, added that the remaining meetings do not include the bilateral meetings that might be expressed by leaders or among three to four leaders of the participating nations. "We're looking at four to five additional meetings," he quoted.

In a media interview this morning after the meeting of the Cebu Organizing Committee (COC) to the 12th Asean Summit where Paynor sits as chair, he bared that the summit's new proposed dates is on January 9-13, 2007. But this must be concurred among all the involved foreign governments to the summit, Paynor said.

Organizers assure new ASEAN Summit dates won't disrupt Sinulog

CEBU CITY, Dec. 12 (PNA) – Organizers of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 2nd East Asia summits have assured Cebuanos the holding of the two high-profile meetings a week before the Sinulog will not affect the preparations of Cebu's most famous festival.

Instead, these will add to a more festive atmosphere during, said Ambassador Mariano Paynor Jr., 12th ASEAN Summit National Organizing Committee (NOC) secretary general.

Paynor said they would even incorporate the Sinulog with some of the activities of the summits and encourage most of the delegates to stay for the Sinulog.

The challenge, however, would be the delegates' accommodation should they decide to stay after the summits to watch the Sinulog festivities.

"But as hosts, I am sure our people will give in. It is our culture to give the best to the guests," he said.

Paynor also stressed the Jan. 11 to 13 proposed schedule of the resumption of the summits is still subject to the availability of the heads of state or heads of the government of participating countries.

"We are still working with the different governments for the final dates and we will make that announcement as soon as the dates have been agreed upon by all governments and countries," he added. (PNA)
