A little something about ERIC BLUMRICH ......

In 1819 Theodore Gericault showed the Paris public a painting called “Scene of Shipwreck,” which eventually became known as “The Raft of the Medusa.” Gericault had been inspired to paint it by a recent (1816) scandal that implicated the French government in corruption and gross incompetence. (This link takes you to a page that gives an excellent & pithy synopsis of the historical background, and also provides an image:http://www.historyhouse.com/in_history/medusa/

Eric Blumrich is a modern-day Gericault whose works are both propaganda and art, and given the state of our politics, we'll see more like it. We need to be able to think about what makes this kind of art work, and what doesn't.http://www.ericblumrich.com/PD.html

    Or choice of religion
    Or peace?
    Was it hope?
    Was it faith?
    Was is honor or grace
    That compelled you?
Was it prayers to Our Father in heaven
Who taught us to love one another?

Well I must tell you, sir,
That I don't see these things in your actions.
    And I don't understand
    Where you're leading this land
    Tell me, please

    Chorus:
What Noble Cause did they die for?
What Noble Cause do I now cry for?
And what Noble Cause did you lie for?
    Why did you lie?
    Why did they die?

    Well you talked about family
    As your children party
    In safety
And I must tell you, sir,
    That the families that you've
    Broken are angry
    Together they stand
    At your fence and demand
    A reply

    Why did they die?
    Why did you lie?

    Editorial from the Manila Standard

    George Bush’s dangerous world

US President George W. Bush continues to speak glibly about winning the war on terrorism but it is becoming increasingly apparent that he and his administration have done more to encourage its spread by misleading his country to war and creating a new generation of terrorists who hate America and its allies.

Recently declassified information shows the extent to which the world was deceived.

In the run-up to war two years ago, Bush insisted that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Two-and-a-half years later, we know this to be a myth.

In 2003, the Bush administration claimed that Iraq had tried to buy uranium from Niger because it was “reconstituting its nuclear weapons program.”

Today we know this information was faulty at best and may have even been based on forged documents. In February 2002, the Central Intelligence Agency sent former ambassador Joseph Wilson to Niger to investigate the reports and he found them to be highly doubtful and said so.

The State Department’s own Bureau of Intelligence and Research also sent a memo to then Secretary of State Colin Powell in 2002 stating that the reports of uranium purchases were “highly dubious.”

Although they must have been aware of these findings, Bush administration officials continued to play the nuclear card in what now looks like an attempt to scare the American public and the rest of the world into supporting an invasion on Iraq.

A second myth perpetuated by the Bush administration was that Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein was somehow allied with the Al Qaida terrorist network that was responsible for the deadly 9/11 attacks in 2001.

In his May 1, 2003 declaration of military victory in Iraq from the deck of the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, Bush said, “We have removed an ally of Al Qaida and cut off a source of terrorist funding... The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror.”

Recently declassified documents now expose this to be a lie as well. There was never a link between the fundamentalist Al Qaida and the secular Saddam, and Bush and his people knew this.

“The American public was led to believe before the Iraq War that Iraq had a role in the 9/11 attack on America, and that the actions of Al Qaida and Iraq were ‘part of the same threat,’” wrote Senator Carl Levin, a member of the Senate intelligence committee. “Well, it was not the CIA that led the public to believe that; it was the leadership of this administration.”

The most stinging indictment comes from Congressman John Murtha, a hawkish, decorated former US marine who, despite being a Democrat, had initially supported the war. Last week, however, Murtha had a change of heart.

“The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion,” he said. Two-and-a-half years after the US military achieved its objectives, fighting continues to intensify, with 2,079 Americans killed and at least 30,000 Iraqi civilian deaths. Oil production is below prewar levels and reconstruction has been stalled.

“Instead of attacks going down over time and with the addition of more troops, attacks have grown dramatically,” he said.

In fact, a State Department report in 2004 indicated a sharp increase in global terrorism.

“Our troops have become the primary target of the insurgency,” Murtha concluded. “They are united against US forces and we have become a catalyst for violence. US troops are the common enemy of the Sunnis, Saddamists and foreign jihadists.”

Bush has clearly left this world a more dangerous place with his reckless war. All of us are paying the price. It’s time the American people make amends.
