my take: it is not wrong to feel insulted or feel angry about the joke, it is not wrong to lash out against the joke...

but there's such a thing as taking it too far (and by that, i mean some who are demanding more than just a simple apology, like a full recant, or a boycott or banning of the show or for scholarships like this stupidity http://globalnation.inquirer.net/new...ticle_id=92508)... and taking the joke out of context...

like i said before, if they want to take these kind of actions, they should do the same for our local shows that make regional or ethnical stereotypes (baluga, bisaya, probinsyanos, etc...) a butt of many jokes...

    wala dapat double standards...
i can see your point in there.. sometimes i also cringe when they make fun of visayan accents on local sitcoms ... but this is on a greater scale man gud.... desperate housewives is a very popular show not only here in the US but all over the world... so it's kinda like a global embarassment and to think that we don't even deserve that joke ... the damage has already been done and i don't think abc's apology is enough .. of course, you can't blame some people (esp the doctors, healthcare professionals, the educators, and the government leaders) for feeling so strongly at this incident because it is their integrity, livelihood and reputation that is at stake... even my american colleagues said that it is so wrong... i watch a lot of US comedy shows and so far i haven't seen one blatantly insulting other races until now... demanding a boycott is not taking it too far, if that what makes them feel justified and vindicated... if we just let this pass, who knows they might do it again so it's better to set a precedent... just my two cents!

it's still double standard bisan unsaon pa nimo pagbali bali... mas nainsulto ko nga mismong kababayan nato ang kusog magbugal bugal sa ato... to hell with global embarassment... i doubt people other than Pinoys even cared about the joke and took it seriously...

and it's really bordering on ridiculousness... it's just a TV show... unsa may damage nga nahitabo? did the Filipino doctors suddenly lose their jobs? are you sure that because of this one silly show, US employers will no longer hire Filipino doctors? unsa man? naigo inyong pride? because those are just words, if it isn't true that you are incompetent, YOU CAN ALWAYS PROVE THEM WRONG through your OWN ACTIONS and SKILLS... demanding words of apology is nothing but a cheap satisfaction for people who are insecure of their own self-worth... kung dili tinood, DILI KA MASAKITAN, IMO RA SILANG KATAW-AN sa ilang pagka ignorante...

the only embarassment I see here is people who are so up in arms about it and acting like the show just killed their little kitties and little bunnies and little babies...

i don't think you have watched many comedy shows my dear... practically every modern comedy show makes fun of racial stereotypes... it just so happens that with this one, ang Pinas maoy namention...

and besides, the joke was taken out of context... Susan (Teri Hatcher's character) is an AIRHEAD, she's supposed to be a clumsy, ignorant, neurotic, stupid b!tch... you're not supposed to take her words seriously because her ignorant comment was pretty much in character...

by reacting this much to a rather throwaway random line, it's like we are actually validating the comment of a stupid character as something true...

i am very intrigued with DH long before it started sa studio 23.. (wala man mi cable ato)... generally for adults ang iya contents per episode (again, in general). pero about the news that terri said a line re medical graduates from the philippines is like katong si malu (however it is spelled) on her own column in a mag, na murag she's having harsh personal opinions about her kapwa filipinos and all... we have reacted to it man gani na filipino ra sad to sya and she wasn't as popular as DH even b4 her column appeared. but i guess what im trying to say is this, no one has any right to discriminate and embarrass someone or even a group of people. nakahinumdom na nuon kong claire danes when she also answered a qustion sa column sa vogue man guro ro na mag na philippines is somewhat like a place where there are a lot of cockroaches and basta to that effect. Influential man gud ni silang mga taga States (kuno) and some would really acknowledge or accept what they here from them. Lain pud baya kaayo na ingon ato iya nasulti, whether it's part of the script or ad lib niya, lain dyd to. as far as i know, we are one of the best providers of health professionals!

Malu deserved to be ridiculed but IMO, i don't agree in calling for her resignation... there's no law prohibiting Malu from saying these things... she's free to write her stupidity... we are free to insult her back... i was actually one of those people who were so vocal against her observation about the OFW's but never did I feel that I had the right to impose myself on her that she should resign or that she should be hanged for it...

i take the same stand on this DH issue... we are free to feel angry about it, we are free to condemn their joke, but it's not right for us to be impulsive in taking drastic actions as if a mortal crime has just been committed...

Aw. OA ra kaayo for the Palace to say something about this issue. Why dont they just concentrate about the country's problems for once? Stupid na issue, muapil pa gyud sila.

Anyway, most of the nurses in US are from Philippines. But most of the doctors are from India.

Insulting baya ang gisulti ni Teri Hatcher but she's just the actress. Not the writer. Besides, it's the writer's own opinion. If they think we have a substandard educational system, what can we do, di ba? Iya ma ng opinion. We have to respect their own opinion even if we don't agree with it. We cannot please everybody.

Time and time again, all we can do is prove them wrong. And how is that gonna happen? Of course, by being successful and credible professionals with integrity. It's no use harping on this issue actually. People will believe what they want to believe. If they think it's a joke, we cannot convince them otherwise. Nor can we ask for an apology. I don't know about you guys but asking for apology is tantamount to begging or asking for attention. It's like saying, "Ouch, you hurt me. Please apologize." Where is the sincerity in that? Anything forced ar asked is worth nothing.

Ang akong attitude? Keber nila! Im not gonna let it affect me. This is just one of life's hardships and we just have to grin and bear it.

Peace. Don't be so affected. Mahal ang moisturizers for the wrinkles! Neither Desperate Housewives or Teri Hatcher's will pay for your wrinkles so ayaw pa-affect.

korek.. and for the others who think na OA ra ang reaction sa pinoy, nobody is forcing you to empathize with us... but you can't also stop us from expressing what we feel is an attack of our credibility as professionals practicing here in america... i know we have different views and opinions on this matter but letting even a silly joke like that pass without doing anything is just not right... morag nisugot ra ta na himoong kataw-anan at the expense of our filipino doctors who have worked so hard and sacrificed a lot just to practice in here....

    That is called publicity.

Keep in mind, negative publicity is still publicity. So, either way, they win.
