I dont see why their leaders think that way. May I ask the defenders of the plan why do you think Cebu can become an autonomous development center like Hongkong?
Though cebu will not level with hongkong in terms of progress but this province will overtake Manila and the cebu's economy might be as good as Hongkong. Period!

But these Master Plan is something. It surreal! It looks like a fairytale. And what about the social costs of these projects.

Cebu must keep its feet on the ground. And the proponents of it must be realistic. You dont have subways or railways yet. You dont even have skyscrapers yet.

My concern is that this plan might only be used as propaganda pitch. YOu want these plans to realize? Give people jobs first. Then we'll talk about it later.
Building tall buildings in cebu is one way for the local people to get jobs. What kind of jobs you want them to have? Club Ultima for example employs hundreds of filipinos (because not only cebuanos who works there). I know there are more good things coming for cebu. Lets just cross our fingers. So what if we become independent. I would rather call cebu as republic of cebu, than cebu philippines.

.... while reading this, i cant help but compare you to Cayetano. pure nonsense talk . you keep saying those plans are surreal and yet your dream city is one with subways and railways, have mercy on yourself. You're the one who's confused And jobs?? Cebu is the capital of call-centers in the philippines, this industry has given jobs to hundreds of undergrads.

.. actually, i'm flattered that you've compared Cebu to Hongkong. You can't name one city in the country that is at par with cebu coz no one is.

May comment lang ako ha. Obserbasyon ko lang, ba't obssessed ang Cebu na maungusan ang Manila? I have been to so many places in the Philippines. In Cities in Mindanao and in the Visayas region, I didnt hear of the slogan, "we will beat Manila" or "we will overtake Manila" or "we can stand on our own", Republic of Cebu, island of the pacific crap.

I remember during Lito's time, his Sangguniang Panlalawigan an ordianance prohibiting the speaking of tagalog. Its a racist slur. Instead of promoting national unity and national identity, here comes a policy of dividing the Philippines more into Bisaya and Tagalog groups. Cebuano leaders seems to fuel this rather barbaric attitude of pitting one tribe from the other. Maybe its their own unique way of whipping up support from its people.

In Mindanao and Luzon people think big. While it is inahibited by different groups of people, walang clannish at xenophobic attitude. And they are not insecure about Manila. No obsession of overtaking Manila. Because they accept with humility that Manila is the one true capital of One Philippines.

And in Mindanao and Luzon, the stupid idea of "imperial Manila" is unheard of.

... coz manila thinks they're better than the rest. that they are superior. i've been to manila and it's hell. the word " illegal" doesnt exist. Now i know where you come from, that's explains your " cayetano" traits.

Unfortunately, you made a WRONG observation. In Mindanao, there is a resentment against "Imperial Manila". Siphoning 70% of revenues from Mindanao and returning only 30% of IRA? Now that's unfair!

The problem Miss Istoryador is every city needs progress AND make ways to avoid internal immigration to Manila. Aren't you happy that every city in Philippines will progress and recognition?

So what? Do you have a problem with that? Aren't you glad that in the process of trying to beat Manila, great cities will emerge in the Philippines? Won't you be happy that if ever another round of rallies in Manila will happen won't affect our country's economy because other great cities like Cebu, Davao etc will be fueling the country's economy? Kung Manila ra tanan, tan-awa, inig rally, hagba tanan, dili ba makalagot? Karon, arang arang nalang gani kay kung mag rallly rally man gani, dili na kaayo ma worry ang taga-Cebu, because "Cebu, is an Island in the Pacific". And what is crap to you is a marketing tool for Cebu, so bahala na ug crap na, daghan man sad tourista ning bisita...Taga asa gani ka? I hope your place can beat our marketing blitz....crap.......
