yikes... that safety feature is really important.. referring to stepping on the brakes first then shift.. kusgan gud na nga engine... then plus pa jud the fact na kasagaran nato tag duha ang sakyanan or more sa ako na case.. manual and automatic... kung naanad ka sa manual then mo drive ka kalit ug matic..naa jud time na ganahan ka mo shift.. or gkan ka sa matic then to manual.... magdahum ka na inig stop, dili raka mo neutral or step on the clutch.. ug kana sad inig dagan kay lagi manual so mag neutral ka to.o nimo matic so tunob ra sad sa accelerator.. mosyagit lagi ang makina.. hehehe.. pero really kuyaw jud... imagine bag.o andar ang engine then mo rev up man jud na kay bugnaw pa.. kung wala to na safety feature na you have to step on the brakes para makatransfer ka from P to D, naa man gud usahay magdali so hala derecho shift from P to D maskin taas ang rev... molupad jud na.. mo.uknol man gani nang gagmay maskin naka brake paka then pugson nimo ug D ... labi na kanang dagko..

unfortunately this incident happened to my parents and sister, good thing they were not harmed in any way physically, but i guess my dad was scared the bejesus out of him coz when they got home after the incident happened he was all sweating and breathing heavily.

The unfortunate event happened on a sunday morning at a church near our place in Consolacion.
on an ordinary day my mom would drive the montero to church with my sister, and usually there would be alot of cars parked there. but on this sunday morning everything went good on our side, my father drove the montero together with my mom and sister. at the church there was not alot of cars parked.
to cut the story short, after the mass the went ahead as always turned engine on and the rev was unusally high, my mom thought WTF is my father doing, but my father thought it was just the usually thing engines do on a cold start. so my father went ahead and put the stick on drive then booom!! montero wanted to fly. im not sure if the turbo kicked in but from what my mom and sister said it was like they wer in a race.. my father being very experienced with vehicles quickly shifted the gear to 1 (using shiftronic) and immediately pulled the hand brake.. just in time for the car not to hit the gutter. (it actually hit the gutter but a slow speed)
following day brought the montero to the casa and filed a complaint. we asked for a service car for the time being since they said they have to evaluate everything.
gave us a crappy smelling whore car of an ADVENTURE. literrally murag gkan sa daruhan. that was after a day of them promising us they would bring the car to our office.
after a few weeks and a couple of letters to MITSUBISHI PHIL. they said the car was road worthy. are you F*#K*NG KIDDING ME?!!

the best part.
MITSUBISHI PHIL. said it was our fault for not reading the manual.

solution sold the car and got a TOYOTA.

if your one of the victims of this defect PM. my family and some other people are filing a lawsuit against them MITSUBISHI.

Early this year my classmate and kumare decided to sell their Silver and Maroon Monteros, I told them I want a brand new Black Montero. I have 1 manual and 2 automatics already of different Make, and my new baby is barely 2 months old pa. Although I was not able to read this post yet, good thing I didn't push through w/ Monty. I was scared w/ these stories now, that's why I tried to check my units again as suggested here, but it wont start if the lever is at N or D, I still have to change it to P before the engine starts. I was relieved to read this post knowing that I made a good choice. Thanks for all the infos. Guys!

mao jud na bai.. basta automatic dili jud ta magdali... unlike sa manual na pwede raka magdula sa clutch.... basta ta.as pa gani ang rpm... ayaw jud ibalhin sa drive mode.. huwata ug manormal ang rpm...then sa tan.aw nimo na dili jud mo.ubos then cguro mao na nga time manawag ka sa dealer para ma prove nimo/ninyo nga naa jud daot ang montero though hasol nang ingon ana... ako btaw wife ako jud buyagon kay lagi magdali mo derecho balhin sa drive mode .. mao na mo.uknol kay lagi ta.as pa ang rpm... montero has a powerful engine.... plus pa jud diesel sya.. ang diesel na makina maskin to.od low rpm na pero at 2000 rpm halos maabot na niya ang max. torque ana meaning molupad jud na... unlike gasoline na kanang 2000 rpm mahulog rana ug slight push lang sa pedal... wala ko nilaban sa montero pero mao lang na akong nasabtan basta automatic... kay ako mismo hilig ko ug manual kay lagi mas naa kay control...

im neither on both sides of the argument. but i dont think there is a perfect car. as stated pa even lexus sa states naa deperensiya. concerned lang ko sa na apil na tao dili sa sakyanan, kay ang sakyanan ma masilian repaint bnew na tanawn, ang taw di kapalit ug butang para e replace sa na bali or na samad...

well my take on this is strange lang pod why only the monty units are affected, nga naa man pod mga strada na same platform naka auto trans pod, wa man ko ka dungog ug any same case... sa auto trans i believe na possible kau ni mahitabo pero sa manual mura di ko maka tuo pa. but 1 theory pod nko is mao na kasagaran monty na affect kay ang 1st gen of monty auto trans man tanan ni gawas unlike sa strada na ang 3.2 gls sport or kato mga nka vgt na bago ang naka auto trans. so mas daghan jud ang auto tranny na monty e compare sa auto tranny na strada, well that is IMO.

also if grabe jud i wondered why walay news from thailand since they are manufactured there. why are we only hearing it here only in th PH. maybe true jud but isolated cases lang ang uban kay "maybe" theyre blaming the cars sa ilang human error. again wa koy gi labanan, opinions and speculations ra nko tanan.

girl diay ko sir. ang akong Monty GLS V di man mudagan. safety feature ni sa automatic na dili mu start ang engine unless naka park.

however, if naka park ka daan, then mu D ka, mu dagan ang montero. unlike sa uban SUV naa safety feature na dapat tamakan sa nimo ang brake before ka maka shift ug gear. murag mao ni kuwang sa montero, mao na disgrasya ko. plus nataranta pa jud ko kay duol na kaayo ko sa sakyanan in front of me, so i floored on the gas thinking it was the brake.

diba kung automatic kung mo shift ka need man jud mo press sa break usa mo change gear...pwede ra diay mo shift deretso?..ako na bantayan sa shift lever sa montero murag wala lock release button..sakto ba ko?..amu SUV naa mn gud lock release button dili ka maka shift kung dili nimu pisliton..

Yah I agree,,,,my Honda CRV is also the same as yours...how come wala ang montero noh?
