they way you are describing the business of your friend suggests that it's on the verge of death, as capital is being reinvested somewhere else. when you remove capital from a business sector, manufacturing in this case, you essentially kill it.

you are quite correct; capital flight of course is a sign of weakening confidence which is in turn caused by many factors. but there is nothing like shrinking ROI to drive people away, especially if a lot of manufacturing companies have folded shop and declared bankruptcy.

^^ thats why i said the capital is always there. My aunt owns a business but instead of expanding it, she prefers buying properties instead. I can't blame her thou kay nagkadaghan naman ang koreano sa ato, so daghan ang moabang sa iyang condos. They are living comfortable to travel asia & europe every year, but ang mga tao niya wa na. I knew another factory owner who was just an ofw like myself about 15 years ago. When he came back to cebu after his contract in indonesia, he work for his in-laws factory for awhile. He was never liked by his inlaws so naglahi sila sa iya wife. They started from scratch & after a few years his business boomed. this was less than 10 years ago. Karon they are downsizing. His capital? Well, he is also into the property market & he has just recently sent his daughter to study in the US. The money is there, the problem is the confidence.

yes it is true. and it is clearly enshrined in the constitution. As much as we want to keep local business rolling, we are lagging far behind our neighbors - Malaysia, Thailand etc which allow full ownership of LAND and businesses to foreigners. I think the idea is if foreigners are allowed to own land in our country, it affects the integirty of our territory which is ludicrous because you foreign countries could not really take land out of the country to affect the integrity of our territory. This part of the constitution needs to be amended.

Also, it will receive a strong opposition from the country's largest corporations - the Ayalas, the Lopez', the Filipino Chinese' - they are not even Filipinos of origin! How ironic!

In the end, it's up to our CONGRESSMEN who has nothing but the best interests of the country in their purview. I forgot - they are the country's biggest businessmen too...it's gonna be a tall tall order!

The Philippine government restricts foreign investments that can generate jobs for Philippine citizens – and yet sends Filipino citizens to work for foreigners overseas – in foreign lands.
