If this will be implemented, I think this will help a lot when it comes to speed since Fiber is a two way communication and much lower attenuation and interference compared to what we are using right now.

but we need also to keep in mind that this is DSL, it means Shared-Bandwidth.
The more people who are using same ISP on the same location signal will really deteriorate, specially those houses who are far from the ISP's Exchange box.

One of the reasons why PLDT's service is bad is because of thieves picking on the copper wires. The same thing Globelines is complaining. I remember reading somewhere in Sunstar that they have lost up to 5 million pesos worth of copper wires and is asking the help of the authorities to help stop this problem.

Migration from copper to fiber optic will really help both PLDT and the subscribers in terms of downtime and speed (no more multiple users using 1 copper wire, causing congestion). Pero the protection should not be paid by the subscribers. It is not the responsibility of the users to pay protection of the lost cables.

Right now, I'm having a bad service with their internet connectivity ever since the Japan quake. But it's too far fetched to even think that its the reason why. I'm even having dial-tone problems here. Sometimes when I pick up my phone, I hear someone is dialing, even at the middle of the night. It looks like I'm being wiretapped right now. Must be one of those thieves again, heh.

But then again, if even moving to fiber optic doesn't solve most of the subscribers problems, oh well...

Everytime PLDT makes a press release, they always talk about widening the gap of the bandwidth. They never talk about the current issues. I don't want more bandwidth, I want reliability and stability. I want my internet as it is when I want to.
