On May 15, Cebu Parklane International Hotel will commemorate the birthday of our endeared President Manuel G. Ting. Almost a year following his unfortunate demise, family, close friends and employees decided to organize a whole day activity in his remembrance. The activities, dubbed Dalit sa Sugbu-anun, will comprise of a Fun Run, Medical Mission and end with the grand opening of the hotel’s newest Cebuano specialty restaurant Kan-anan.
As family and friends know, Sir Manny lead a very active and healthy lifestyle. In fact, exercise is always part of his daily routine, be it at the gym or through brisk walking. He was an active member of the WALK AND TALK CLUB, of which he was their first president. Thus, this commemorative day will kick off with a Fun Run, aptly dubbed as HUNAT SUGBU: DAGAN PARA NI MANING (check event link for registration and other run details:
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=151486634914417). The run will start at 5:30 a.m. at Ayala Center Terraces, with 5k and 15k categories. Registration fee is at Php250.00 inclusive of a singlet and race kit. A cash prize of Php7,000.00, Php5,000.00 and Php3,000.00 will be awarded to the top three for the 15k category, respectively. For 5k, a cash prize of Php3,000.00, Php2,000.00 and Php1,000.00 will be given to the top three. Top ten finishers for both categories will receive a medal while all finishers get a certificate. Various prizes such as sports items, overnight stays and airline tickets will be raffled off after the run. Breakfast will be served to all finishers at the Ayala Terraces where the program and awarding ceremonies will take place. Registration forms are available at Parklane, Runnr Ayala Center, Casa Ilongga at Robinson’s Place and Phil. Sports Commission Office at Cebu City Sports Complex.
The run will be followed by a Medical Mission at the open parking area located right across the hotel’s façade. Once again, Cebu Parklane has partnered with Jesu Cristi Community of Cebu Manna-Ministry, together with doctors and consultants of the Phil. Association of Family Physicians, to offer medical services and Operation Tuli to neighboring communities. The Medical Mission will run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Last year, during the hotel’s first-ever medical mission, a total of 597 cases were serviced.
Culminating the day’s activities will be the grand opening of the hotel’s first-ever Cebuano specialty restaurant, KAN-ANAN. This once more is a tribute to the late Sir Manny as he had an unending love for Cebuano food and delicacies. It was his vision to come up with a restaurant that served Cebuano specialties in a hotel setting but with competitive pricing. Kan-anan, translated as “eatery” in Cebuano, will serve various Cebuano dishes ranging from salads such as Latu-Lukut-Gusu to popular specialty food like Lansyaw and Balbakuwa, among others. Grilled fresh seafood is also part of the restaurant’s daily menu. The highlight of the event will be the presentation of festivals from chosen parts of Cebu, which will culminate with a mini Sinulog festival. This is also one of the hotel’s thrust to achieve it’s goal of being a hotel in Cebu that stands for Cebu.
May 15 will be one memorable day, as Manuel G. Ting’s family, close friends and employees all come together to commemorate one fine gentleman – a leader, a father, and a friend.
