I've been reading for the past hour on how the Philippines came to be a 2nd world country, and I believe that its true in some categories.

    http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/third_world.htm

This is a very interesting read. For those who don't believe this news, I suggest you read this document first. It rates countries in terms of poverty, human development, etc.

Please also note that Saudi Arabia and South Korea is also considered a Third World Country, again this is depending on which category.

We've certainly come a long way, keep your head up guys, now we need to work on other categories to make us a true second world country. this is something to be proud of.

Just a clarrfication. On which category does South Korea becomes a third world country? They even outpaced the US in terms on online connectivity.

I think there are some discrepancies on your sources.

Yup thats true, I'm still puzzled over the red mark on South Korea. They were a first world country in terms of GNI (as well as Saudi Arabia) per capita, but Saudi Arabia was clearly ranked a third world country in terms of Press Freedom according to the document. Perhaps it was meant for North Korea.

The sources are from the World Bank or so they say, they've ranked the Philippines as a lower-middle-income economy in terms of GNI at ($4,950) per capita, and categorizes it as a Second World country.

Thanks, it should be North Korea.

BTW, according to CIA World Factbook the Philippines have:
    GDP - Per capita =$5,100
    unemployment rate = 8.7%
