i'm not sure about the BIG figures posted on forums, but "poachers" are roaming around the country buying tokays from rural folks. and the price range is smaller, but still the amount is enough to buy a motorcyle. do the math. murag naa man gud studies na ginahimo re sa potency sa ilang tongue na allegedly source sa possible cure daw sa aids, cancer, etc. i have an agriculturist uncle working for an international company in mindanao who confirmed that there are indeed German buyers who are behind this buying spree. I think these foreigners work for these pharma companies doing research on the development of the possible cure for these dreaded illnesses.
Mao naay weight requirement is because, the bigger the specimen, the bigger the Tongue would be. Mao man gud na ang part na giapas gyud maayo for the said research.
luoy lang coz ang wild population sa tokays ang mag suffer. nahurot na man gud halos ang wild stocks sa malaysia and thailand where all these craze started.

Do you have any experience caring for any gecko or lizard species? especially those with a rather agressive temperament? If not, I advise you start with Leopard Geckos first.
Tokays are NOT advisable for beginners.
Here's a Tokay Gecko Care Sheet: http://www.lizard-landscapes.com/tokay-gecko.html

Here a couple of information you may want to know about tokay gecko
The Tokay Gecko (Gekko gecko) is a nocturnal arboreal gecko, ranging from northeast India and Bangladesh, throughout Southeast Asia, Philippines to Indonesia and western New Guinea. Its native habitat is rainforest trees and cliffs, and it also frequently adapts to rural human habitations, roaming walls and ceilings at night in search of insect prey. Increasing urbanization is reducing its range. In the late 1980s and early 1990s it was introduced into Hawaii, Florida, Texas, Belize, and several Caribbean islands, where it can be considered an invasive species.
The Tokay Gecko is known as a Tuko or Toko in the Philippines, and Tokek in Indonesian/Javanese, for its characteristic vocalizations. People have mixed feelings about it ranging from terror of the mistaken belief that its feet can tear your skin off to great love and admiration for its entertaining vocalizations; in the Philippines, most people respect it and value it because it eats dangerous pests such as scorpions and giant centipedes.
ths s why tokays are important hehehe
