Dog Lovers Beware.... Iran is not for you!

I just spotted an interesting article which further convinces me that Iran has fallen yet deeper into the pit of fundamentalism. Recently fashionable men's hairstyles were deemed un-Islamic and could land a person in jail. Now it seems that owning a pet dog is morally unacceptable and soon too will become illegal.

It's an interpretation of their religion and an extreme one. There is a definite trend emerging in Iran where the military is holding more and more power and the ordinary people have less and less freedom. Why suddenly are dogs a threat? Reminds me of the Taliban as they became increasingly extreme the more they consolidated their grip on power. I wonder how long until education for women becomes illegal in Iran because that looks like the path their leaders have taken.

It is common practice for pet dogs to be vaccinated against rabies so the public health argument is invalid. The other reason given in the article is that the lawmakers consider dog ownership "blind imitation of the vulgar culture of the West" which is utterly ridiculous when you consider that dogs were first domesticated around 15,000 BC in East Asia and Africa.
