DOLE official cries foul over permit issue

LABOR Asst. Regional Director Exequiel Sarcauga finally broke his silence on the dispute between Cebu International School’s (CIS) superintendent and some faculty members, saying he has been unfairly dragged into the case.

“Ngano gud intawon nga manghilabot pako ana. Sixteen years nako nga wala na diha sa eskwelahan ug duna nakoy laing trabaho nga gikalingawan (Why would I intervene? It has been 16 years since I was in CIS and I already found another job),” he said in an interview.

He was referring to the allegation that being a former CIS faculty member, he might have helped in the revocation of Mark Bretherton’s Alien Employment Permit (AEP).

CIS Faculty Association members accused Bretherton, superintendent of Cebu’s oldest school in Barangay Pit-os, of being anti-Filipino and oppressive to co-workers.

Sarcauga said he inhibited since the start of the investigation on the teachers’ opposition to the British national’s application for a new work permit.

He said that while it is true that he taught at CIS until 1990, he could not afford to risk his position as a Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 7 official.

Also, Bretherton’s lawyer Reggie Ramos filed last Friday an ex-party motion for inhibition against Dole 7 Director Elias Cayanong.

He said Cayanong’s decision to revoke his client’s work permit without first resolving their motion for reconsideration showed bias against Bretherton.

In the same motion, Ramos asked Labor Secretary Danilo Cruz to assign the case to any labor official outside Dole 7. (AIV)

Na-a to'y case diha nga the mother is a filipina who married a foriegner. She had a previous child before she got married to a foriegner and they also had a child with the foreigner husband. She enrolled both kids to CIS. The child from foreigner father was accepted but the child from her previous marriage was denied. Is that fair? They are under estimating the Filipinos? They have abused our hospitality to the point of treating us like dogs. I am asking the vigilantes to solve this problem and let this be a warning to these ingrates.
