Best RPG game in PC?

Of course it is. What do you think people are posting here for? Their personal best... Or is this thread only for the "well-rounded" gamers? Do you consider yourself one?

The best does not mean your own personal best. How can it? If you've played one RPG game ... does that make you qualified to say that one RPG game you have played IS the best? It's only common sense to say you have to play this, this, and so and so. When games are ranked and reviewed, what do you think they are compared with? What one person in the corner thinks? or are they reviewed against their peers and against other like-games? What position are you trying to defend? That anyone can say that a single game is "the best" without merit of playing anything else?

I can pinpoint exactly who those people are. Those people are NOT someone who goes "Final Fantasy rules!". I can name three rounded gamers just from their responses ... chronnus, krusade, kaede. They actually back up their arguments with substance. It's clear who knows what they are talking and who are talking out of their ass.

It's also not nice to assume that anybody who thinks Final Fantasy IS the best RPG isn't a well-rounded RPG gamer. And even if he isn't, what's wrong with what he thinks? Some or all may not agree, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to post and share his opinion. As I said, it all boils down to personal opinion.

I didn't know I was in the forums to become yours or their best friend. I never said nothing was wrong in thinking that Final Fantasy was the "the best" there is. What I said is ... to really know what RPG is the best there is ... you need to have played a varied amount. Playing one does not give you any experience. We are talking the best of the best ... not the best that you've played. Their preference is their preference, I don't really care ... that ONLY gives them the right to criticize or praise ... WITH or WITHOUT basis. You keep mentioning things boiling down to personal opinion ... broaden your personal opinion ... then talk, maybe people will listen. Commenting on games that you haven't played as you have so many times does not improve your credibility.

I haven't played all the RPG games but I think Diablo 1 and Morrowind are the best for me. PEACE!

IWD focused more on the combat side, didn't really interest me all that much.

I think people should at least play a few or the RPG's here for a considerable amount of time before declaring which is best in their opinion. Playing just one game and declaring it the win!, or playing other games for 10-20 minutes (or even 1-2 hours for some RPG's) and then declaring that they're no good is terribly shortsighted. RPG's aren't games that gratify players instantly, so the 20 minutes that's been spent on the game won't give you the whole idea on wether the game is crap or not.

whew.. I played KOTOR.. it was cool... but I couldn't help it after becoming a jedi.. I have to stop playing... I just lost my stealth ability... darn... oh well...


Maybe we should try to generalize Morrowind.. into Elder Scroll series... oh yeah.. you might try to include Ultima series.. heheh though not very nice.. But it has a good story..

wow... I can't believe my eyes... lots of Ragnarok fans... hmm... There must be a lot of hack and slashers voting here... I can differentiate both hack n' slashers and Role Players ... hehehe
Oh... I can't seem to get the point of having Ragnarok a RPG? coz... I can't see we get to kill innocent monsters and stuff.. oh.. and there are too few quests and these quests just doesn't have a point... just to make a single item that is worthless... something that gives very small defense but has a different form... and is sold for about thousands and millions... I can't see why it has to be something like it...
oh yeah.. if it is RPG we get to choose whatever we want... but instead people follow what others say.. instead of doing what they want, and making what they want...
Oh well... Lots of Ragnarok fans here... hehehe .. I can't question that...

[W20/C20/F20]

For me would be the Baldur's Gate series, NWN, Fallout 2, Planescape, KOTR, Wizardy VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge, and Faxanadu(NES).

With 12+years of RPG gaming (from pen and paper + early 286/386 PC systems), I can say I'm the least interested at Ragnarok.

These are the great RPG games I've enjoyed during my 12year career and I've played them all:

The 5.25" / 3.5" disks generation:
- The Bard's Tale (ha! monsters everywhere!)
- Dragon Wars (a bit weird, challenging, but fun)
- Shadow Sorcerer (x86 PC) (2-D isometric view type of play)
- Dragonlance Trilogy (Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, Dark Queen of Krynn) (2-D, great for ADnD fans)
- Eye of the Beholder Trilogy (first person 2-D)
- Forgotten Realms (2-D Pool of Radiance Series)
- Wizardry VI and VII by the great D.W. Bradley (my long time favourites)
- Might and Magic Clouds of Xeen and Dark Side of Xeen (no comment)

The CD revolution:
(roughly chronological order)
- Fallout 2 (cooool!)
- all Baldur's Gate (especially Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal)
- Planescape (very memorable story)
- Icewindale 1&2 (more tactical)
- NWN (revolutionary, always play as a spellcaster)
- Temple of Elemental Evil (it's sooo buggy)
- KOTR (very well-rounded)

Special mentions:
- Faxanadu & Castlevania for the NES way back in the early 90's :P
- FFVII (because of the PS1 craze)
