Point is, Jesus NEVER said anything to preach Christianity by the sword. And that's a fact. Mohammed DID preach to spread Islam by the sword. Check the Bible and the Q'ran and you will see the differences...Originally Posted by dacs

Proof, please.

Isn't it your duty to protect your faith? I was just doing my part. My silence DOES NOT mean I am not moderating and being a moderator does not make me the protector of the Christian faith in this forum. And yes, ALL rules do apply to every post, member and moderator alike. It is up to you if you want to report any issue to the right people or not (it would be greatly appreciated if you'd do the former). It also just so happens that we can't moderate each and every post that members make and every thread there is on the day.Originally Posted by dacs
Regarding the thread, I have read the speech the Pope made and that certain statement did not, in any way, insult Islam. Every intelligent person listening to or reading the speech, no matter what his faith is, knows that that was a quoted statement. The Pope didn't have to apologize nor does he need to explain things. But him being a great church leader, made himself humble, apologized for a statement that was not intended to do harm, and for that I salute him.

The cross was used AT THE FIRST INSTANCE, but resistance to worshipping the cross LED TO THE SWORD being used...Originally Posted by dacs
Read up on your history books, this is the reason why MAGELLAN was killed by LAPULAPU, because magellan was forcing the natives to succumb to christianity. LAPULAPU resisted, so magellan wanted to show him who was boss, but magellan ended up being killed...
As the Italian navigator Antonio Pigafetta (who acompanied magellan and made a detailed journal of their trip) wrote:
"After dinner they all returned wearing their actons, and with the two kings they went to the middle of the summit of the highest mountain on the island, and set up the CROSS. And the Captain told them that they were true friends to them, because the CROSS was there, and that they could greatly rejoice therefore. And he asked them which was the best port for revictualing. They replied that there were three of them. Ceylon (Leyte), Zubu (Cebu), and Calaghan (the district of Caraca on Mindanao), but that Zubu was the largest and had the most trade. And they offered to give them pilots who would show them the correct route. The Captain General thanked them, and decided to go there, as his unhappy fate would have it. When the CROSS was set up everyone said a Pater Noster. And an Ave Maria, and they worshipped it. And the kings did likewise. Afterwards they went down into the cultivated fields" (Diary of Pigafetta, p. 46)
Lapulapu refused to worship the cross, hence the battle of mactan...
After this, the Spaniards focused on Luzon, as Mindanao was hard to colonize due to the Muslims, but the Visayas also scared them because of the PINTADOS who were fierce warriors and had tattoos all over their bodies...
I think this clearly proves that Christanity in the Philippines was enforced with the sword, as in many other examples around the world... It may not have been a mandate in the bible, but it was mandated by the VATICAN...
You misunderstood history. Its true that when the Spaniards came they brought along missionaries. Its just sad that the conversion took place at the same time when Spanish soldiers are trying to impose their authority on the natives.Originally Posted by weedmeister2

Now you should distinguish was the way Catholicism was spread by the Philippines sanctioned by the Pope or is it sanction by the Spanish crown.
YOur crude attempt to connect the Pope with the atrocities of the Spaniards is a , PURE SPECULATION, MALICIOUS MISINFORMATION, and a GROSS DECEPTION!
Islam itself sanctioned the use of the sword to spread the faith but for Catholicism it is not the case. The Vatican did not in any way sanctioned the use of force to compel people to embrace Christianity. Give me an encyclical that authorizes that method of conversion and I will immediately renounce my being Catholic.
Again, what can we expect from somebody who stood at attention and saluted "Heil Hitler" in his youth.
