Actually, the D80 is not on the same level as the 30D. It's listed as an entry level camera
which makes it in the running with the 400D.

For comparison sake... the 30D's opponent is the D200.

Though in some instances the D80 does perform betterthan the 30D. Like the D80's 10mp
vs. the 30D's 8. And also a better buffer as shown here in 30 seconds of continous shooting...

Canon EOS 30D JPEG Standard - 131 frames (4.85 fps initial burst of 117 frames)

Canon EOS 30D JPEG Fine - 78 frames (4.85 fps initial burst of 41 frames)
Canon EOS 30D JPEG continuous (Standard then Fine); MP3 1,342 KB

Nikon D80 JPEG Fine - 90 frames (3.0 fps continuous)
    Nikon D80 JPEG Fine: 614 KB MP3

By the way, for all those who have Pentax lenses lying around... my grandfather has plenty...
the new 10 megapixel Pentax K10D just came out. And it's being positioned to go toe-to-toe
    with the 30D and D200.

But back to the topic ...

Featurewise... the playing board is actually even.. just get whatever body fits your budget.
It should last you a good 2~4 years of use... unless you're the type who likes to buy the
latest technowonder that rolls out of the company's R&D labs

The kit lens is okay. You're starting out, right? Why waste money going out to buy a
better lens when you really don't know what to look for? Learn to understand optics first.
In what ways are you limited by the kit lens if any at all? Then you can start investing in
good lenses that answer those limitations and bests compliments your shooting style.

Olympus and Sony are kinda pricy at the moment with limited stocks on lenses.

The Canon and Nikon routes are pretty much the better way to go in Cebu in terms of
price of gear and availibility of lenses, accessories, and service.

Which way you go is up to you... because when the prints are done... does it really matter?

My grandfather has been letting me use his Pentax film-slrs and excellent lenses so I might
personally pick up a Pentax again if the K10's price is right.
