Fastfood chain eyes more outlets in Cebu
Seeing “dynamic” developments in the metropolis and the “pulsating” local economy, McDonald’s will open two more outlets in the cities of Cebu and Mandaue this year.
McDonald’s Cebu operations consultant Christian Eje said the fastfood chain will open a branch in Colon Street, Cebu City and another in Mandaue City within the year.
McDonald’s is also eyeing an outlet at the Asiatown IT Park in Cebu City to cater to personnel of call center and software development companies located in the area.
“Aside from generating future employment, we also want to be where our customers can easily access us,” Eje said.
“Our real estate department is (also) aggressively looking for feasible sites outside Metro Cebu,” he added.
McDonald’s re-opened its SM City Cebu branch yesterday after a two-month renovation.
“We now have an upgraded image to guarantee our customers a comfortable dining experience,” Eje said.
In an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, Eje said the renovated 226-square meter branch at SM City now has a restroom for people with physical disabilities as well as other new features.
At the re-opening, the first 100 customers were treated with free Big Mac, which is described as “McDonald’s most popular special burger.”
McDonald’s SM branch started its operation in 1994 and now has 60 employees.
Eje said he is optimistic McDonald’s will continue to attract a growing number of customers, particularly those aged two years and above.
“Cebu has been the greatest contributor for McDonald’s Philippines because it has brought positive business results and (now there are) plans of future expansion,” he said.
According to Eje, fastfood chains in the province have mushroomed, therefore “it has not yet reached saturation point.”
Having served the Philippine market for 25 years now, Eje said the company continues to highlight “customers’ value for money” by offering promotions and meal packages.
Eje said McDonald’s has also lined up community assistance programs.
“There is an on-going negotiation between the company and the City Government for a probable site for the first McDonald’s Bahay Bulilit Day Care Center in Cebu,” he said. He did not elaborate, however.
McDonald’s has about 300 branches nationwide.
In Cebu, it has eight branches at Cebu South Road in Basak-Mambaling area, Ayala Center Cebu, SM City, Osmeña Blvd., Fuente Osmeña, JY Square Mall and in Lapu-Lapu City. It had an outlet at Plaza Fair, which was damaged by fire. (MMM)

CLARK FIELD, Pampanga -- Cebu Pacific, the second largest domestic airline, will resume next month its daily flights to and from Cebu City at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport here.
A promotional Cebu-Clark fare of 99 pesos is being offered if tickets are bought from September 19 to 26.
Victor Jose Luciano, president of Clark International Airport Corp., said the airline will use its newly acquired Airbus A319, which can accommodate 124 to 142 passengers.
He said the management of Cebu Pacific decided to renew flights here to strengthen the economic ties between the growth centers of Central Luzon and the Visayas.
Cebu Pacific will take off at 10:20 a.m. from Cebu and arrive here at 11:40 a.m. It will leave the DMIA at 12:10 p.m. and arrive in Cebu at 1:30 p.m.
Luciano said the DMIA has 43 international and 14 domestic passenger flights a week, aside from 60 international and domestic cargo fights.
He said the CIAC is expanding the passenger capacity of the airport and improving its security and other facilities.
The passenger terminal here is being used by Asiana Airlines, which has daily flights to Seoul, South Korea; Tiger Airways, with thrice a day flights to Singapore, Macau and Thailand; Air Asia with daily flights to Malaysia and Thailand; China Rich Airlines with three times a week flights to China.
