The supposed coil spring cushion will add more stress to your suspension. The Mac Pherson strut is supposed to absorb the rear load, the more you restrain the strut from doing its work, this compression stress will be distributed somewhere else, obviously to where it is mounted... the lower control arms, which it intends to protect. Remember that for every force/action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The effect would be the same as if you over inflate your tire, there will be too much stress on the suspensions, hence shorter life.
