Another Example: Juan dela Cruz is a cheapskate... He was building a new house, after the one above got burned down, so he went to buy lumber. Instead of going to a tax-mapped legitimate business establishment, he bought his lumber from a fly-by-night, business-in-a-tricycle lumber merchant, so that he can save a lot, since he had just lost his wealth.... Yes, indeed the lumber were cheaper, but he found out that many of them are not strong.... So, Juan went back to place where he bought his lumber, alas, the fly-by-night merchant was gone, so Juan could not get a refund or change for a better quality lumber... he used the defective lumber for firewood...what a waste...

Still Another Example: After the lumber incident, Juan was able to save enough to buy legitimate lumber from legal business establishment... he decided it was time to cement his house... He was going to a construction supply store, when a man approached him.. "Boss, palit ka cemento? daghan man sobra sa amu construction, 150pesos ra boss..." Juan ,seems to have learned from the lumber incident, declined the man and proceeded to the store... the selling price was around 185pesos... with 35 pesos difference in mind, Juan quickly approached the man again to purchase 20 bags of cement, saving 700 pesos! Yeah, he saved a huge sum of money! The next day, two police officers went by his house, with the man who sold him the cement... the police man asked "Sir, nipalit kag cemento aning tauhana? palihug ku pakita resibo sa imu gipalit..." With nothing to show, his cements were confiscated because Juan was violating the Anti-Fencing Law... so sad...but Juan will never learn....
You know, I can easily relate to this one that just happened to me a week ago.

Our family car at home, which I always drive and maintain on, is about to break down because the wheels are getting thinner and thinner. Disgrasya ug damage ang pwedeng I-resulta ani. While I'm no pro with repairing the car, I asked my dad what to do. He told me to replace the wheels with a cheap new one, kanang mga 1500 kuno. Of course, akoy bayad. So what I did is that I went to my friend who is a car freak and asked if he can get me a pair of wheels. He said yes, and alangan since its a pretty elegant car, it wont hit the roads with a surplus cheapo wheels. I agree with this one since I want reliability. The price for the wheels: 8000. I know na mahal pero it was for reliability. So I went home lang sa and told my dad about it.

Instead of approving it since ako may mobayad bisag wala koy problem sa price, we had a lengthy argument. Ni-apil pa gyud akong mom and they all said "no, that's too expensive". Kana lang kunong surplus kay mas barato. So para mahilom nalang gyud, I asked them one last question: "8000, akoy bayad, no questions asked, LIBRE ni, or mo-settle gyud mo sa baratohong BULOK pero kamoy bayad ha? Wa koy ihatag ninyo bisag sinsiyo".

And they all opted for the surplus wheels. Wa na ko mosaba. Kapoyan kog argue. Pasalamat pa gani kong di ko mogasto ug 8k for wheels.

My point here is that, most sa mga pinoy ganahan kaayo ug band-aid solution. Kana bitawng tingi-tingi na baligya nato, this is contributing to that mentality. Why would you pay for 1.25 pesos na stick of cigarette instead you can save a lot more if you buy a box of cigarrete where a stick is actually cheaper than the tingi-tingi. Why buy sachets of milk if makabarato ka when you buy the boxes or the cans? Why buy sachets of shampoo if makabarato ka when you buy the bigger ones?

I'm not encouraging opulence or any sorts. In my case sa akong sakyanan, all I want is reliability. If I were using those surplus wheels, kapila kaha ko mag-ilis ug wheels no compared to using those 8k wheels? I-add pa nimo ang hassle sa inconvenience, the price, waste of time. And since cars are LUXURIES, you should be willing to give your left nut.

    Ahhh the wonders of ignorance...

unsaon nga dili mag hirap nga mag over spending man sad, imagina murag halos tanan or majority naay utang. hahaha! mao na ato nasod kusog pud mangutang sa laing country ug sa world bank.
