You don't need Hubble, what you're asking for has already been done, and it has already been proven that the descent stages of ALL 6 LM's are there where they are supposed to be on the moon.

I belong to a group that simulates the entire Apollo Lunar Missions from T Minus 24 hours to mission end (splashdown). With this simulator addon for the Orbiter Free Space Flight Simulator ( Orbiter - Home ) , we also modelled the Primary Guidance and Navigation System (PNGS) and the Abort Guidance System (AGS), the 1x1 foot computer used in the (Lunar Module) LM and the Command and Service Module (CSM).

One of the members of our team is actually from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) so he has access to the actual source code of the PNGS/AGS computer software. It's a very very simple computer (memory is only 2k), but it can do a lot, and a testament of this is how simple calculators today can perform very complex trigonometric and logarithmic calculations.

Now, you really have to have a good background of orbital mechanics ( Orbital mechanics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) and spacecraft propulsion ( Spacecraft propulsion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) to understand the calculations involved in landing a spacecraft on the lunar surface, but you can refer to an older post I made here in iStorya.net if you want a little refresher...

Now you have to understand that, most of the maneuvers the LM did prior to landing were all automated...why? Very simple--orbital mechanics requires very precise timing of burns, otherwise, misalignments and overshoots will occur and that will be a very bad day for the astronauts. In order for the PNGS to handle all these calculations, considering it's very tiny processing power, the landing sequence has to be divided into steps or "programs" that individually have to be loaded into the DSKY at precise moments, so that the computer can then analyze the current orbital path (in this case, the orbital path will be in tangent with the lunar surface, because it's a LANDING). These programs are labelled into "P's"... for example, P63 meant the "High Gate" target, meaning if the P63 program fails to bring the LM to this point in the orbit path, AGS will take over an abort the landing. If P63 went okay, the P64 program then needs to be loaded into the PNGS so that it can tackle the next phase of the landing (final approach).





Ok you were asking about the joystick. This is a good time to talk about it because the joystick that the Apollo astronauts used in the LM during landing, only played its part at P64...why? Because by this point in time, the surface of the moon would be quite visible, and the commander can then MANUALLY fly the LM to the surface, with verbal guidance from the LMP. I remember the guys had to study this schematic a long time in order to faithfully simulate how the RCS worked, because the LM behaves differently when docked with the CSM--changes in center-of-gravity (CoG) was really bewildering, esp. sa mga actually astronauts who experienced it. But then it's all Newtonian physics, and if you understand the process, you slowly come out of the confused state

Hi all,

If you believe that the Moon landings were a hoax, and that 9/11 was perpetrated by the US government, you need to have your heads checked. They've all been debunked and disproved to death, and yet people will insist that "they've covered it all up". Please do the world a favor and grow up.

Here's the MAJOR problem with conspiracy theories as huge as these: the immense scale of the conspiracy, the number of people involved, and the convoluted plot, eventually makes the conspiracy collapse upon itself. Think about the number of people involved in the US government during 9/11, and NASA during the Moon landings. I think there were like hundreds of thousands of people involved. Don't you think that by now, that there'd be LEAKS of these coverups?

You give too much credit for the US government in the way that they keep their secrets, but the reality is, they don't have a very clean record of keeping secrets (see: Wikileaks, Watergate, Iran Contra Affair, Pentagon papers for clear examples of US secrets not staying secret for long)
