My Pc doesnt detect my media player, pls help

can anyone please help me? i just bought a measy e8hd media player and installed a new and formatted 1tb sata hard drive in it. my PCs both laptop running windows xp and desktop running windows 7 doesnt detect the player. i connected the player to the pc using the usb cable that goes with the package. i also tried plugging it to different usb ports. im i doing this wrong? please help me. wala kasi instruction sa manula on how to connect the player to the pc.

if i connect the hard drive directly to the pc it gets detected.

i would really appreciate any help.

thanks you all for replying. na figure out na nako why di sya ma detect. ang technician ga assemble sa akong cpu kay wala nya gi tarong ug plug ang connector sa usb ports to the motherboard. wala ga tunong. thats why dili gyud sya ma recognize. after 3 hrs or googling for answers may nalang na naka huna2x ko ug open sa casing sa cpu ug gi subay nako ang connections. =)
