^^I think this was made possible by the "A" grade given by the MTRCB on SENIOR YEAR, which gives the film 100% free from paying any amusement tax
This film is also RATED A by Cinema Evaluation Board, and DEPED-approved.

The following is a letter from the director/writer (among a lot of things) of the film, Senior Year, Jerrold Tarog.
SENIOR YEAR will have a regular week-long run, starting today. But as the the plight of indie films goes, SM might pull the film out if the first 3 days don't draw in a large audience of viewers. When I was writing the screenplay for the film, I told producer Franco Alido that I'll do my best to come up with a film that he can show to everybody. But he has to do his best to show it to everybody. Any film that has commercial aspirations is nothing without the marketing that comes after it. People have to know the film is out there, that it wants to be seen. And that's exponentially more difficult for an independent film without big stars, huge billboards and full support from the major TV networks.
I could only smile when Franco dove headlong into the task. You should've seen him running around all twelve SM branches and some schools with standees, posters, cables, HD and DVD players and TV sets in tow. He, along with his staff in Digitank Studios, literally became walking promotional booths. They talked to SM branch managers, haggled for ideal poster placements, scoured for sponsors and went back-and-forth doing mall tours.
Of course, this extends to musician Johnoy Danao, who shared with us his amazing talent and precious time, and our ultra-generous publicist Gay Domingo, who called every media contact she could think of. Let's not forget friends, cast/crew members and colleagues who tweeted, blogged, and posted on their Walls just to let you know the film is out there. This includes Quark Henares, Rozette Diaz, Shinji Manlangit and Pepe Diokno, who raffled out tickets to our premiere.
Special mention goes to Ramon Bautista who, right after our guesting this morning in 99.5 RT, literally barged in the neighboring radio stations—dragging Gay and I with him—and charmed his way into impromptu guestings at Mellow 94.7 and Magic 89.9.
Ramon, after that, your scene in the film with the "ball" has become even more special.
But see, we don't want you to watch the film because we worked hard to promote it. We want you to see the film because we made it for you, the Filipino audience. This is our calling and our passion—to present you with an alternative to Hollywood and the major local studios. And our aim is not to become as rich as the major studios but to make just enough so we could keep making more films for everybody.
It will always be an uphill struggle for independent film. That is its nature. In fact, even at the last minute (and by that, I mean just a few hours ago) there were still battles to be fought with some branches suddenly wanting to cut in half SENIOR YEAR's first screening day so they could accommodate Hollywood movies. Commercial establishments will always be that way. It is their nature, and you can't blame them. Indie films, for reasons both just and unjust, are notorious for being box office disappointments.
But SENIOR YEAR is our attempt at a fresh start. We did our best to make sure you'll have a good time at the cinemas, and we did our best, within our limited resources, to make sure you know it's out there. The rest...is up to you.
Show your support, not just for independent cinema, but for Philippine cinema as a whole. If you like the film, tell your friends and families. If you don't like the film, tell your enemies. At least, it will help ticket sales.
This isn't just for us who made the film but for every filmmaker who wants to do something new and different, and for every Pinoy audience member who wants to see something new and different.
Mabuhay tayong lahat. Kitakits!
Sincerely,
Jerrold Tarog
Director

Do you want to be part of a Facebook movement for Philippine Cinema?
Presently there's a campaign to convince SM Cinemas to extend the screenings of SENIOR YEAR until the weekend at least for audiences who can't make it during the week to attend.
All you need to do is LIKE the SENIOR YEAR FACEBOOK PAGE as well as LIKE the SM CINEMA FACEBOOK PAGE and directly post a polite request for Senior Year to remain in theaters for its week long run or at least until the weekend. But after you do that, PLEASE MAKE SURE that you're going to enjoy the film, yes?
Because if you believe that it's high time that we deserve better from our home-grown talents in front and behind Phililipine movie-making industry, then please do this.
The success of Senior Year would mean the success of enjoyable, entertaining but intelligent and independent Philippine cinema.
If you're tired with commercial Filipino movies that are really like commercials with every scene there's a product placement, you'll help Senior Year.
