Without a doubt, this has to be one of the titles of fall 2008 which has the most impressive art & animation. (J.C.Staff = superb animation. Some of the titles that J.C.Staff has worked on are: Kare Kano, KimiKiss, SNS series, Shigofumi, Hayate no Gotoku series). However, I feel like it failed in the most important aspect for this type of show – the plot.

It’s not that the story was not interesting; it failed on how the different arcs were connected. For the first few episodes, it started with a firm plot. Although having a mediocre start —the sudden girlfriend appearance— it was quickly turning into something unique. Set in a world where it is normal for people to have powers, two people with unusual circumstances meet. Index, a walking library who supposedly contains important secrets of their world, and Touma, a boy with the power to nullify magic; This was more than enough to keep me interested.

However after a few episodes, the direction and the progression of the story became unclear. It was generally jumping back and forth. Sometimes the jump is too big that what was established before becomes irrelevant to the new arc. Then it would go back to the main arc as if nothing happened.

This show had potential; an interesting story, top-notch animation and the characters you wouldn’t forget (mmmm… Kanzaki, Kaori. Om nom nom nom ). The way the plot progressed — which is important in this heavy plot-driven show— just wasted everything.
