I don't need to consider, I'm living currently in cebu and lived in manila 4 years ago as well as London, Tokyo, SG and LA and cost of living is not unknown to me. The rent in cebu city for apartments is 12k up for a decent location on a two bedroom apartment. 5k to 8k for a one bedroom or studio type room. Its not different to manila at all. If you live in the outskirts of cebu then might as well live in the outskirts of manila. The crappier the place the cheaper(4k down) it is but you can't get a good place without paying here as well.
The food, unless you're satisfied to eat bbq and puso, they cost the same here. Meat and vegetable at the grocery or the market is the same as manila.
Gasoline is the same. Transportation cost is the same. Utility costs are the same.
What exactly is lower level or lower standard in cebu than manila besides the
salary of workers who are getting cheated by International companies here?

Cebu is easier to commute with low crime-rate and less politics. Taxes in Manila are HIGHER so ni compensate sad ang Callcenters sa ilang expenses.

Dili pud ta ka sayon-sayon ug sulti ana kay nanrabaho man ta para sa kwarta unya and 2-3k nga kalahi-an sa sweldo kay dako na man kaayo labi na sa lisud-lisud ngadtu sa arang-arang ug kahimtang nga mga call center agents. Sometimes that 2-3k difference can draw a thin line between life and death, who knows.

Although we can earn that 2-3k, but having it in your job compared to other jobs is worth it!

    @Pinoybb

I've been reading your post (i always visit istorya as a visitor but im not a stalker, just reading through this thread) and as what I have read, indeed you are aware of the cost of living of both Cebu and Manila, but your point of view is of that person with high(er) financial status. I'm not saying your observation is incorrect. But the people to whom you are conversing (if I may call it ) might be talking to you from a different point of view, a lower financial status pov. I

My point is, costs of living may vary on different cities (or countries) but may also vary on the financial status of a person. The bottom line, personal point of view.

A lot of my friends who accepted some job transfer in manila tells me the same, the cost of living is higher no way its comparable to cebu especially the rent and the food, public transpo is just P1 higher but everything else is higher, then again I would believe their word since they currently work in manila as compared to some random poster. Not really pertaining to anyone.

If indeed the random poster is right about manila having the same cost of living in cebu, why does manila have a higher basic salary as stipulated by the law compared to cebu, if everything is 1:1 then what the government is doing in cebu is illegal.

Its more expensive in cebu to maintain a car because of the markup price they add to the parts. Same for pc components, equipment, etc. Sometimes the prices here are ridiculous because its imported from china, hk, etc and it has to go through manila first then to cebu. So how is living in cebu any cheaper? Its no different and sometimes more expensive. Talking non-hillbilly lifestyle here and not living like a farmer tending the land.

You eat at TGIF in manila and cebu are the prices different? No. Same for fastfood 40-150php. Same for classy food 600php -1500php. You want to shop cheap go to colon, carbon, etc. In manila go to roxas blvd, pasay, baclaran. Yes I know my way around manila and lived there more than 10 years and not just a random poster.
The only reason one would say its more expensive to live in manila or anywhere around the world is because they need to live on their own and not rely on their combined family income. I lived in the UK for quite a long time and could buy stuff I want with money to spare on an average salary. The prices of GBP are expensive compared to peso so yeah one dumb@ss would think its more expensive to live in the UK. But the buying power is what counts. Here the buying power of peso is so low that less than 20k a month you can't really buy stuff with money to spare. Well you can if you don't enjoy the good life.

    pretty_jasmine is correct.

EarlZ - your friends probably lived a hillbilly lifestyle in cebu, the laid back lifestyle. Tell them to aim higher or if they want they can live a hillbilly lifestyle in manila as well and be satisfied with salaries ranging 12k below over there. Or tell them to go back to cebu if its tough for them. Tsk tsk.
You know the Philippines is not federal. The law governing manila is no different than in cebu.

Not sure if Ambergris has an office in cebu but I asked my friend over there how much the starting salary is and its 17k plus plus.
