bitaw, what's more imporatant than the latest car model is financial freedom.

The researchers / authors of The Millionaire Next Door expose the fact that the true wealthy people in America (let's narrow this down to the first-generation multi-millionaires) use second-hand cars and live in modest homes.

Ms. Beau tinood na. Some millionaires here even take public transportation instead of driving their cars and they dont drive the fancy cars. They even bring lunch to work. What do they eat? bananas and a can of tuna from home

aheheheh hay kalami sa danggit prito unya crispy. dont you know pagkain yan ng mga millionaires? when i retire i am a millionaire in Pinas standard, hehehe. I worked so hard abroad. Anyway yeah, sobrang frugal danggit na lang pirmi kan-on its better than steaks! but i much prefer danggit over steaks kay sum-ol na man for me ang steaks. Ngita gyud ko ug ginamos and buwad.

bitaw talking about frugality...the idea there is that....people should work to support their families. Not work to support your bills and mga utangs.

I agree with your parents policy on changing cars...My husband wants to buy a new car to replace our 1997 model.I don't care if our neighbors and friends drive new cars but are hard up with the amortizations...Why get a new one when you have to amortize again and eventually will depreciate? With new cars you will be obliged to buy insurance which is more expensive.. if you are driving an old car does that mean you are poor? There's this tendency for us to show off.that's why those who are successful in business biglang yaman end up poor bec. they end up buying big houses, luxury cars and when their business is not good they end up selling their assets at low price...tsk tsk.

    Hehehe...
Spaghetti is one of the cheapest and fastest ways to get fussy kids to eat.
Instead of buying cheese and milk, we buy Cheese Whiz or other cheese spread and mix in after the sauce. It makes the spaghetti creamier and cheesier for the kids, and we get to save a lot.

I came from a frugal family, we ate out only for birthdays. And, get this, we had our own ukay-ukay store before but my mom would list down all the things we got from the store and we still had to pay for it.

The thing was we were frugal but my parents were not into investing. Hindi balanced. When the economy turned downhill during the Asian crisis, my parents had a hard time putting us through school.

The first thing I did when I started earning was to save up to 3 months worth of salary, for emergency money. When I ticked that off my list, the next thing I did was invest in term insurance, then in mutual funds.

I think it's important not just to save. But to invest in a vehicle that will allow your money to grow enough to overtake inflation.

Not really that kuripot though basta i dont spend on unnecessary things because sawa na ko sa material things. I learned frugality on my own specially that i have children to take care of. yeah it's totally different when we're on our own. makat-on jud na ug budget. i believe children should be taught money management coz the adjustment can really be hard if they have been used to getting money from parents pronto. i believe a good start would be to give children an allowance from which they could buy their "wants". this way they will learn how to save and plan for purchases.

i saw this oprah episode wherein ni guest iyang granddaughter. she works for someone as some sort of house manager. though a rich family themselves, the employers still find it amusing that a family of the world's second richest man is working for them.

that's truly a wise decision on the buffet patriarch. many of the second- or third-generation millionaires are often in lower financial positions than their old folks because they never acquired the values that made their old folks rich in the first place. values such as hard work, frugality, simplicity.
