@butitoy: why are you disappointed? i have tried that procie also. maybe the other parts will defer like the (mobo, ram and hdd that u used). for me its a smooth flow of performance.
here's my old rig
intel q8200
msi p45 neo
6gb ram
wd 500gb
9500gt 1gb
good idea.then couple the intel i series with a gud VC with lots of RAM and hefty HDD..
configure the Photoshop CS5 3D | Scratch Disk ..etc..
u'll have a snappy photo editing machine

@TS: actually akong old rig kay gamit Photoshop CS4:
procie: Pentium D
mobo: p5vdc-mx
ram: 1gb
hdd: 160gb
so ok ra ang c2q nga procie? then board nga maka support ug 16gb ram nya parisan ug taas nga VC?
heres my friend's RIG i set set up. he just brought it to my haus actually for me to assemble and install
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 - 2.33GHz - 4MB L2
Intel p45
2gb ram DDR3 1333
Seagate 250 + 500GB
HD 4770
mine that time
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - 2.40GHz - 8MB L2
Abit P35E
2gb ram DDR2800
160GB + 500 + 1TB
HD63650 V3
my rig runs faster, opens photoshop faster and very much cheaper.
his processor worth 13K? that time, mine's just 4.5K
one of the reason is the bigger cache..
now back to the topic:
TS..tell ur friend mag i3 540 para dili sayang ang 20K
@TS: if your friend is good at editing it doesnt matter what version of photoshop he's going to use...lower version could perform well on what other istoryan suggested above specs but it has lesser features on latest version of photoshop... but still, it's all on editor's creativity... ^^
