gtboy, you will decrease the speed of your hard drives if you mix ide and atapi devices because atapi devices(cdrom/writer/dvdrom/writer) are usually slower than most modern hard drives. and mixing them in one single ide channel will make the motherboard adopt the slowest device in the channel. sayang kung pas pas imo harddisk nya slave-van nimo ug dvd

1- USB to IDE cable (USB 2.0)
2- use PCI IDE Controller

so which is more preferable?

pci ide controller is the best
if you only use youre hd within your computer casing..
but usb to ide cable is much more versatile and makes your HD sort of portable

Problem solved..
-IDE1 cable = 2HDs (Master=Seagate 120GB; Slave=Maxtor 160GB)
-IDE2 cable = (Master=Samsung DVD-Writer; Slave=Sony DVD-ROM)

Seagate HD doesn't work properly when it's slave, so I made it Master.. but still boot primarily at Slave (Maxtor). Works OK!
