Although you have the skills so submit or knock somebody out on the ground you prefer to play safe and stay in the guard.

before that kick there was a liver kick.

i think in this picture he anticipate a liver kick and tried to block. but it was a kick upstairs. he was open upstairs and homerun for mirco.

^He (Vanderlei) did what he could; He fought as a Champion even though his left eye is black & blue - he fought like a trapped Coyote..w/ so much fierce & ferocity; But Mirko is just too Quick & too Powerful. He managed to go toe-to-toe w/ him but he gave up that position(stand-up) & goes for a shoot/takedown...but mirko was on top of him, & unleash a barrage of stone hard fist on his noggin & kisser.

He keeps protecting his Mid-section...due to that infamous im-print on his side of his ribs 2 years ago. I have never seen Vanderlei recieved such a serious Beatdown in his MMA career. Mirko even looks a little bit smaller than him. But hats off to Vanderlei...He still one of my favorites.

For the Inter-promo fight of UFC & PRIDE....I am routing for Vanderlei over Liddell.
