the sony a55, a580 and the d7000 of nikon basically used the same 18mpx sensor. the nikon beats the sony at 12800 iso but cost almost twice as much as the sony a580. the a580 has built in hdr up to 6 variable stops. with 7fps with lock settings and focus. its basically almost the a55 without the slt but is a conventional dslr thats why only 7fps instead of 10fps

Sony A33 DSLT (not dslr anymore since no more flipping mirror):

built - tough for an entry level( amusingly it is made from recycled plastic as revealed in CES 2011; solid diay ni e recycle ang linabay nga plastic nga arinula ni lola); very light and small (not that heavy & very bulgy to bring)

ergonomics - not designed for big hands(i have big hands) but i did grip it good enough

iso - better than my D90 (i test it using my sandisk extreme and compared the photos here in my pc with my nikon's). even at iso3200 is usable(comparable to iso1600 with my nikon D90; and to think D90 is one of the cleanest ISO performer in DX format in old school models ^^); it has up to iso25600

fps - impressive; 7frames per second and good buffer in "continuous" autofocus, let me type it again "continuous" and not single point; quite silent since it has no flipping mirror anymore; murag fantasy laser gun ang sound (mura nag dula mo og laser gun nga dulaan baligya sa toy kingdom, nyahahaha! ^^; mura pod mog usa sa power rangers nagtira og gun ^^; in fairness nindot paminawon )

focus - impressive; fastest i have ever tested on low models cropped category. faster than my nikon D90. liveview's autofocus also is as fast with the viewfinder; autofocus in full hd video recording is wickedly fast ( its my first time to experience this kind of fast video focusing compared to my uncle's JVC big professional camcorder; phase-detection, dili ang standard contrast based mao cguro ni naka kosog sa focusing; sony's engineers are evil enough to bring this out)

video - just as what i have said, fast "continuous" focus, makalingaw. no video artifacts as well; bati lang inig manual zoom kay mo wobble due to stiff zooming (normal ra hinoon ni since you are zooming in hand, dili electronic nga smooth ang zooming)

dynamic range - im surprised, it has 3 levels, and it worked very well; quite better than combining bracketed shots.

controls - youll find the buttons lesser then nikon's but the functions can be used as shortcuts for fast engaging.

viewfinder - not that large like the pentraprism of nikon's but very bright and good color(its somewhat wide looking though), and detailed metering information visible; naa pod digital horizon level which is only present in nikon's higher models; instant effect on metering (not only in the lcd). --> edit: mao diay kay EVF ang gigamit (electronic viewfinder, not mirror bounce viewfinder; i dont know if this is a con but its good when i tested it personally)

option menu - very user friendly (ambot lang kay dali ra hinoon ko kasabot og ingon ani kay maoy akong hilig, mga electronics interfaces)

lcd - same with d90's 3inch, as expected with a 920,000 dots, sharp, saturated, and crisp presentation; and its swivel

other - with kelvin(yoohoo!) and bracketing(lol!), ev compensation(lol!), external flash sync is only 1/140(huhuhu!); sony is inclined to cooler side of white balance(i like nikon's warmer side) pero ma usab ra ni ni kelvin costner.

lenses and accessories - this is the true "CON" i can find. TOO expensive lenses(more expensive than nikon's in some), and extremely limited availability(youll need to order yet with sony stores if you want one; will take 3 weeks to arrive >.< ). same with the accessories (tatayhua has few only); i cannot find tamron and sigma lenses for sony mounts easily also(of which mao ra gyud ni makaya sa pobre pareha nako). also third party flash is extremely limited(im talking about nissin, metz, sunpak, & vivitar, not yongnuo)

plug: i only tested & analyze it for around half an hour or a bit less so dont take my personal review as 100% credible. we have different tastes and point of views (mahutdan pa lang ko'g stock sa napkin kung magdugay unsaon nalang)

hala cge, mao nana.... kamo nalang pag igo....

    baw!

you can still find many great minolta lenses that can be use with the sony alpha. i got a 70-210 f4 for 8500.00 pesos. it is the all metal version, it was made in 1985. the time when minolta and leica had a tieup in making lenses. yes the same leica used in the lumix cameras.

for lenses, you cna order form pnotoshop at baseline or gizmo. they accept orders for sigma and tamron lenses with sony mounts.

photoshop sells the flagship flash hvl-56 for sony which is almost 19t cheaper than the price from sony center.

a33/a55 is the first of the slt series. by sept they will be releasing the a77 still a crop but prosumer camera same as the d400 category and then they will release a full frame slt. from reports, sony is concentrating on making the future sony dslr as slt's.

the a33/a55 is just an intro into the new technology and so far it has paid off for sony. like theri nex series the slt is enjoying very good reviews and sales abroad. it is also reported that sony in conjunction with carl zeiss are in the process of releasing new lenses to support the a77. only a very few lens avaiable will be able to maximize the potential of the a77 because it will have a 24 mpx sensor.

so far no news has been release yet about the new generation of full frames.

@inkinian, im not explaining to convince others to shift but only so others can learn to respect the technology behind the sony alpha.

as for iso, wait this sept. if rumors are true the a77 will have an iso in the hundred thousand range. im eargerly waiting for this realeas also.

    tnx for understanding boss
