1. Survey the scene.
-See if the scene is safe for you to intervene.
-Look for bystanders, ask what happened to the person.
-If you know first aid, introduce yourself and ask permission to help the patient.
2. Primary Survey
- Check for responsiveness. "Hey! hey! are you okay mr./ms?"
-If patient is unresponsive, ask bystanders to activate medical assistance or call an ambulance. If ambulance is not available, coordinate for medical transport to the nearest hospital.
-Check the airway for possible obstruction.
-Check the breathing and blood circulation or pulse.
-If the victim has pulse but no breathing, perform Rescue Breathing.
-If the victim has no pulse and no breathing, perform CPR.
-While performing CPR or Rescue Breathing, remind bystanders to follow up medical transport or assistance.
Remember, a CPR not performed properly is a lot better than not performing anything at all.
3. Secondary Survey
-If the victim has recovered, examine patient for other injuries.
-If the victim is conscious, ask for information related to the accident.
-When medical personnel has arrived, kindly turn over the victim for advance medical assistance.
