RAM's have timing/speed information stored on the SPD chip and these are according to JDEC specifications. Example you purchase a 1333Mhz, the SPD will contain info for 533-667-800-1066-1333. You just need to either set the DRAM detection to Auto or input the specific timings.
If you wanna make sure, bring your system before purchasing the RAM but that wont be necessary TBH.
