It's worth mentioning that the fight that left Shanks with the scars was a fair one (i.e. not a sneak attack) and BB didn't have DF abilities at that time. So you can just imagine how strong BB was back then, and how much stonger he is now with his two DF abilities.

The reason why he wasn't promoted to a higher position within WB crew was because he didn't want to be. He was just biding his time, waiting for the DF that the unfortunate Thatch found. It was in his plan all along to go under everyone's radar. And then BANG! Shichibukai with two DFs mothaf*ckas! You gotta admire the way this man's mind works.

i think, by the time nga nakuha ni shanks iya scar, i think naa na ni BB iya Darkness power..and i think that's the reason why Shanks told WB to stop Ace pursuing BB, cuz Shanks had a firsthand experience with BB's Darkness power. my two cents.

In Chapter 434, Shanks and Buggy were shown in WB's flashback. WB was reminiscing how the WB pirates and the Roger pirates fought a lot of times. In this flashback, Shanks didn't have the three scars yet. Two panels later, Shanks had a flashback of him and Buggy talking after Roger has been executed. His eye wasn't shown in this panel, so it's possible that he already has a scar by this time.

So based on this, I think Shanks got the scar around 20 or so years ago. We know that BB got his first DF when Ace was already a member of WB, so that would be less than 10 years ago.

I think shanks got his scars before he was able to assemble his own crew. Proof is the flag. Not unless they changed flags which is most unlikely. Now compare luffy before he assembled his crew and the current luffy. There's a very big difference. Same with shanks who didnt have a crew yet and the current yonkou shanks. Its possible that BB and shanks fought when shanks didnt even master haki yet. BB was ready to go berserk on the war but changed his mind when shanks and his crew showed up. The best haki users are the df users worst nightmare.

Right on! As I pointed out earlier, it's highly likely that Shanks already has the scar by the time Gol D. Roger was executed. Then when he assembled his own pirate crew, he incorporated the three scars into his jolly roger (pirate flag).

Its possible that BB and shanks fought when shanks didnt even master haki yet. BB was ready to go berserk on the war but changed his mind when shanks and his crew showed up. The best haki users are the df users worst nightmare.

Okay, let's assume that Shanks hasn't mastered the haki yet during the fight against Blackbeard. But saying that this is the reason that Blackbeard was able to wound Shanks is a lame excuse IMHO. I'm sure Shanks was already strong even without mastery of the haki, just like Luffy was already strong even before the haki training. I like to think Shanks and BB were evenly matched during that fight.

Also, regarding BB's withdrawal from Marineford upon Shank's arrival, I don't think it was cowardice on his part. He may be powerful, but he isn't that stupid to take on the WG, WB crew, Impel Down escapees, Luffy and Shank's crew all at the same time.
