@TS: LG P500 Optimus would be your best bet with what's currently on the market. If you can wait a while longer, Samsung will be launching a range of affordable android devices in the coming months.

Try doing a full factory reset. If it doesn't work, bring it back to Samsung. Since the problems happened after they updated it, they should be accountable for it.
