FRA Lippo Lippi, the New Wave band in the '80s from Norway, will perform in Tacloban City on February 11 at the City Convention Center (Astrodome).


"Big Boss Daddy Event Production is happy to bring the band here in the city as a pre-valentine show. The original lead vocalist Per Oystein Sorensen of Fra Lippo Lippi will be here. He will have a 25-member entourage including Filipino back-up singers," said Engr. Kenneth Uy, the president of Big Boss Daddy Event Production, producer of big concerts in the city.

Fra Lippo Lippi brought to us such to now classic hits like "Beauty and Madness," "Light and Shade," "Every Time I See You," "Stitches and Burns," "Shouldn't Have To Be Like That," and "It's Too Late," among others.


"This Norwegian band transcends age even teenagers know and love their songs. This will be the third time Fra Lippo Lippi will perform in the Philippines and we grab this opportunity to bring them here," said Uy during the interview.


Big Boss Daddy's two beneficiaries of the concert are Tacloban Buddhist Temple, which is a non-stock, non-profit organization with Bente Go as president; and High School Batch '61 of Leyte Progressive High School.


"We want to help these organizations in continuing with their various community outreach programs for this year," he said.


The name Fra Lippo Lippi was derived from the name Renaissance painter of Robert Browning's poem, according to the Wikepedia (the free online encyclopedia). The band was organized in Nessoden Norway in 1980. Not until in 1982 when they released their single "Songs" that it became a hit even without promotions, selling 5,000 copies in Norway alone.


When asked what's his stand on the Manila artists' complaint that foreign artists should be taxed higher as event organizer, Uy said: "We grab every opportunity when international artists come to Manila if we can bring them here. It's the fans, the buying public who dictates the market. We have nothing against our local artists, in fact they are also very good."


Uy has changed the concert scene in the city with very low ticket rates for such international artists like David Pomeranz, Air Supply, John Ford Coley, and Cascades, among others.


"Big Boss Daddy Productions targets four concerts a year. We sell tickets with just enough profit to produce for the next event. We can even lower the tickets if only we have a bigger venue. We are just happy even the students can afford our tickets. The Tacloban Convention Center can only accommodate 4,500 people. We expected Fra Lippo Lippi will be another big hit," Uy said.
