‘More would have died’ in Mabolo flood
Hadn't the wall that killed six persons in Sindulan, Mabolo, Cebu City collapsed, the flood fed by a downpour might have killed more people.
A neighbor of the Balagapo family in Sindulan said yesterday that after the surging floodwaters toppled the wall, the water was blocked and the other houses along the creek were spared.
Betha Caube, who has lived in Sindulan since 1986, said that last week’s flood was the worst to hit the area.
Respects
Caube was among the many people who paid their last respects to Precilla Balagapo and her three children, Frealla Ann, 7, Fritzie Joice, 6, and Alfredo III, 3, at the Angelicum Garden of Angels in Mandaue City yesterday afternoon.
Last Aug. 30, the Balagapos were found dead together with 24-year-old Abigail Familara, a relative, and 38-year-old Elsa Gocela, their housemaid.
The door of the basement room they were renting in Sindulan was blocked by a concrete wall that collapsed, trapping them inside.
Precilla’s husband, Alfredo Jr., was in Bohol at the time of the tragedy. He was assigned there by the company he works for.
Alfredo told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that he will take one day at a time in moving on.
“I can’t even blame God,” he said.
Alfredo also believes the incident wasn’t a “fortuitous” one, saying it was caused by negligence.
